Andre Jones injured?

Jones may not be the greatest CB in the world, but he's better than everyone else we've got (not injured). And, he has gotten burned SIGNIFICANTLY less than Grixby. He is inexperienced, the USC game was his... 3rd! game at NU! He'll continue to progress, and he'll definitely do well next year with a year under his belt, and we should get Jones back next year, as well as a little more expereience Thenarse, and who knows who else.

Our secondary as it stands right now.. will not win championships. I have to believe that next year's secondary will be leaps and bounds beyond what we hav enow.

Talked to him after the game, he had a cast on and said it's nothing, he will be fine just a little banged up from after the game and it was precautionary. He's fine said it won't affect his play at all

Might as well get thenarse in there to get some experience if jones doesn't do well with a cast. i am not one to continously bash husker players like a lot of fans, but it may something to try if all of this is true. He is still very capable of playing with the cast, but when you already get burned constantly and don't move your feet until the receiver is right beside you, it might be time to try someone else. Just a thought

Broken knuckle.........

LINCOLN - Junior Andre Jones was the only contributing Nebraska cornerback who had managed to stay injury-free this season.

Not anymore.

The first-year starter out of Fresno (Calif.) City College wore a black cast on his left arm and hand Wednesday at NU practice. He said he broke a knuckle Saturday during the Huskers' 22-20 loss to Texas.

Jones will have the cast replaced with a less obtrusive device in order to play unimpaired Saturday against Oklahoma State.

He said he didn't know when or how the injury occurred.

"The next morning," he said, "it had swelled up like a latex glove when you blow it up."

Jones has emerged as NU's top cover corner, often matching up against the opponent's best receiver in what the Huskers call "star coverage." He ranks fourth on the team with 40 tackles and has intercepted one pass.

Fellow starting cornerback Cortney Grixby played early in the year with a cast on his hand to protect a broken thumb. His injury came after Nebraska had lost projected starter Zack Bowman and senior Isaiah Fluellen to season-ending knee injuries.

There's no break coming for Jones and Grixby. Oklahoma State boasts two of the leading receivers in the Big 12 with D'Juan Woods and Adarius Bowman.

The 6-foot-4 Bowman is averaging 22 yards on his 36 receptions, with nine touchdowns. Woods ranks third on the OSU all-time chart with 138 catches, trailing only Rashaun Woods, his brother, and Hart Lee Dykes.

"You've got a 6-4 or 6-5 guy (Bowman) who's extremely productive," said Phil Elmassian, NU's cornerbacks coach. "And the other guy's just as good. No. 84 (Woods), he's what, their third-leading receiver in the history of the school? Don't forget about him."

Jones and Grixby should be prepared, already having seen Dwayne Jarrett of Southern Cal, Todd Blythe of Iowa State and Limas Sweed of Texas.

"It will be hard," Elmassian said. "Every week it's just hard."

Dammit I'm worried about them passing to Grixby's side with how small he is!!!

hell i have been worried about everyone picking on him since the 1st game of the year, but looking ahead i bet Jones will be much improved next year and with some others back (Bowman), we will have a better secondary, which we desperately need to compete and move up to the next level.....

Uh oh, we're going to need Andre Jones to help carry this football team. Hopefully it's not that bad of an injury.

I'm not too worried about this. Its not like he picks off a lot of passes. He can still do what he has done all year with a cast on his hand. Plus clubbing a reciever may actually cause a turnover if he uses his cast.
