Chicago Sun Times: 5 keys to an Illini victory

My keys:

D line containment and pressure. Key to the game imho.

Balanced offensive attack to keep the iLLini D guessing.

Suntimes- Terrifc NU CBs and Less downfield passing threat with TA- OK, not agreeing with that

Keys: Turnovers- as always the most important stat next to the score

Making Illinois 1 dimensional- dont let them run the football

Consistency on offense- move the chains, no 3 and outs, 2+ first downs on every possession

It's hard to contain and pressure. It's usually one or the other. As always, I am hoping we bring the heat on this kid. If he wants to try to run then it's free reign on our LBs to light his a$$ up and see how long he wants to keep running.

I'd we play contain and give this kid all day, he will pass all over our a$$. Their passing game is very good. Also, as we've seen in the past, too much time back there leads to open running lanes. PRESSURE is the key today for me.

Balance on offense. I completely agree. I think we will see a heavier dose of the run but if Illini start sneaking up too close to the line of scrimmage I hope these coaches are ready to let TA open up and take some shots downfield. Clearly the Sun times writer isn't aware of Armstrong throwing abilities, maybe Illinois won't expect it either. At least not til it's too late.

This is where we need that fire Zaire Anderson showed at the Spring Game during the Compete Drill. Lost amid the Jack Hoffman run was perhaps the single best individual performance of the day - when Anderson shoved aside two blockers, quickly and securely grabbed the RB and ripped him to the turf.

That play featured more fire than most of the first four games combined. That is what we need from Anderson and the other defensive leaders. Drive Scheelhaase to the turf with extreme prejudice. Put the fear of the Blackshirts into him.

"Even though there’s slightly less of a downfield passing threat with Armstrong in the game"

Is he serious?
