How do we call North Championship by beating Troy and Nicholls and losing to OKIE a successful season? Geeez - this team is simply not Tom's team. It is not worthy of the same praise we used to get. Until we schedule and beat real teams - tough and easy - we cannot get the love. Look at our pathetic record! We have beaten no one of the winning variety. How can people respect us when we only beat the Troys of the world, and then point to our receord and tell everyone how good we are. Only real games mean something, and in real games, we are 0 -3....Sad.
That's right it's not and the sooner everyone gets over it and moves on with their lives we can stop this division of the fans!!!! One side has the people who complain all the time and talk about the "good ole days" and the other side is the people trying to believe in the system and watch the Huskers rise back up to the top. If we win the North and people are still complaining about the state of things I will be absolutely shocked!!! You know I sat right next to three Texas fans and they were positive the whole time when we were playing them. Right next to me was a jacka$$ that wanted to complain the whole time. I thought about throwing the Husker fan over the side of Memorial Stadium and talking football with the Texas guys!!!! Stand behind your team guys..............
Stand behind them - YES. But become disillusioned becasue we win games against our sister and lose games against real men? NO. We need to develop a team that can play with the tough guys and we need to NOT be satisfied winning the North when all we do is beat losers to get there, followed by a loss (or even a win) in a meaningless bowl game. I want quality wins from a quality team before I say we are real champions, and wins over Troy and Louisina Tech don't make this Husker too proud! I can't believe we actually get excited over those types of wins around here! Bill Cal gets no love from me for a winning record when the record is built up on pansy teams....I want a winner!
Let me SLOOOOW THIIIS DOWN for you. If a team in the big 12 wants to play for the conf. championship game it must first win its division. We cannot win our division based on troy and nichols wins or losses. We have to beat the other teams in the division. Right now we are tied for 1st in our division. We control our own destiny. a win this week and a win against colorado and we are in the game against the south winner.
Problem is, the big name teams don't want to schedule tough non-conference games. They want the easier mid-major or 1-AA teams to play prior to entering conference play. And those teams want/need the money the big name schools shell out.
Easy. You get win the north, you get the chance to play for a BCS bowl. Pretty simple really

a) Most games are decided years in advance and we, like everyone else, plug the holes with typically one 1-AA team and a few 1-A teams. Do you think we thought USC would be that good when the game was scheduled? Hell, Texas played North Texas, Rice and Sam Houston State!
Kinda like Tom in the early 90's huh? Oh how quickly ye forget.
