Is college football ready for a woman? It has to be, now that Condoleezza Rice is officially a member of the College Football Playoff selection committee.

I like this choice. I am a fan of Condoleezza Rice--I liked her when she was in politics. But I suspect if she was a man with exactly the same qualifications, Rice would not have gotten the appointment. IMO.

Voted "other." I think it's a combination of her being qualified and in the public eye. I can't think of any reason why she should be disqualified. I don't think she's particularly controversial, or if she is I'm not recalling it.

I can't imagine she's less qualified than guys like Tom Jernstedt, Dan Radakovich and Steve Wieberg. I doubt any of these men have the kind of ultra-high level decision making that Rice has been involved in during her career. There isn't a decision this committee will have to make that she isn't equal to.

i think skip bayless is the only truly qualified potential candidate, but other than that i think she is a good pick. first, she is obviously intelligent. second, she seems to have a genuine love of the game. third, how hard is it to pick the top four teams? this really is not a big deal.

I certainly wouldn't say she's unqualified. I think she will do perfectly fine on the committee. But she might not be one of the most qualified people available.

If Condoleezza Rice was a man, would Mr. Rice have gotten the appointment?

Before I opine on whether she is qualified or not, I'd like to know what everyone thinks the qualifications for this position include.

Every time I see/hear her name, I think back to the Chappelle episode where he was the black white supremist and called her "Condalingus Rice"

Just ask him. He'll tell you.

I voted Other. Probably her biggest qualification is she's a well know name and they were obviously looking for several people not directly involved with college football. She's a know college football fan and associated with a current NCAA member institution.

I don't think it's a huge controversy, it's not like the members of the committee all have to be huge football geniuses with a bunch of insider info. They don't even need to rewatch game film 5 times and tell a message board how smart they are, or have to come from a naturally strong family. They just have to watch and know about football and make an opinion regarding who the best 4 teams are. I'm not a fan of Condi Rice but I'm sure she'll be fine. Hell, I could do it. So could you (any of you, probably).
