I would also like to hear more of Callahan's and McKewon's insight on the current recruiting situation as well.Dirk has done his homework about Nebraska recruiting. Andy has a more global perspective. I found their conversation interesting.
Did you not watch the 1996 Arizona State game where we got SHUT OUT?I don't think any of this talk would be happening if we didn't keep getting blown out on national television. There were tough times and bad losses under TO but we were never embarrassed. This falls squarely on the shoulders of BO!!
I have been a big BO supporter but I am not sure that he can take us back to relevance, and that is the problem......
Better not look at several of TO's games against Oklahoma either back in the day. Or several bowl games he coached in. Fact is most people only remember that 4 years before he retired and they think thats how it always was.Did you not watch the 1996 Arizona State game where we got SHUT OUT?I don't think any of this talk would be happening if we didn't keep getting blown out on national television. All in all, good article. I dunno that I agree with this last paragraph though. If we play a competitive game I think Pelini is safe. Regardless of whether we beat Sparty or not. We get blown out, well, that's when the trouble will start. Like da skers said, fans only remember Osborne in the 90s. People don't remember the blowout losses we suffered through before our period of dominance.Indeed, that is all Pelini and his team can do at this point. And if somehow the Huskers can create and seize an opportunity to beat a 6.5-point road favorite whose defense allows only 3.47 yards a play, then Pelini will probably win the division and give himself an opportunity to spend another year in Lincoln. If the Huskers sputter again, however, if they end the season with the kind of bittersweet record they've had every year of Pelini's tenure, then -- fairly or not, wisely or not -- Perlman and Eichorst may elect to make a change.
lol phat jacks Is slammed during lunch hours everytime I'm thereI got the impression that he began that article before the Michigan game, with the intent of writing a hot-seat piece, but when we won the game he had to change tack and rewrite it a bit. There's still that tinge of "Husker Fans are sharpening their pitchforks" to the whole thing, as if a loss or two more and he's gone. Which is absurd.
The best thing about that article is Andy's mention of Phat Jack's, which is not overwhelmed with business by Lincolnites like it should be, but is a very well-known spot amongst the national media. His mention of Burnt Ends is a stab in the back though - that's something that should have stayed a secret for those in the know. If the rank-and-file Lincoln diners all get wise to Burnt Ends there won't be enough for those of us who truly deserve them.
I distinctly remember many a blow out under TO. I remember being up by 20 at half on Washington in Lincoln in 1990 or 1991, and getting the doors blown off in the 2nd half. That game was so similar to this year's game against UCLA it is scary. I also remember losing to Miami 31-0 in the Orange Bowl about the same time. Others have mentioned the 19-0 loss at ASU in 1996 coming off of a MNC. Or maybe the year we got blown out by OU in the Orange Bowl after beating them at home earlier that season. TO had many a blow out, don't kid yourself.I don't think any of this talk would be happening if we didn't keep getting blown out on national television. Washington and Miami split the national championship that year and our losses were 36-21 and 22-0. That's not too similar to letting a "pretty good" team get 600 or whatever yards on us. The only one that could possibly be considered embarrassing that you listed is ASU.I distinctly remember many a blow out under TO. +1 The very same is done with Suh. People only seem to base his entire 4 years on the Texas and Arizona games when he was a senior. Frazier will always be remembered for his game against Florida.Better not look at several of TO's games against Oklahoma either back in the day. Or several bowl games he coached in. It was a 21-9 lead against the Huskies in 1991 with 5:32 left in the 3rd Quarter. (14-6 at the half) Washington then scored 28 in a row to win 36-21. http://www.huskermax.com/games/1991/03washington.htmlI distinctly remember many a blow out under TO. He still may need to win the conference to keep his job.I could have sworn the consensus in here was that a loss to Northwestern in Lincoln would be the nail in Pelini's coffin. Either immediately or by season's end.
As a Phat Jack's regular, I have to agree with you about the Burnt Ends. Let's keep that to ourselves, shall we?I got the impression that he began that article before the Michigan game, with the intent of writing a hot-seat piece, but when we won the game he had to change tack and rewrite it a bit.
