The Word with Major Culbert

Major Culbert, a freshman from Harbor City, Calif., is listed as the No. 2 strong safety on the NU roster, but he was more than just another reserve in Saturday’s 34-20 victory over Missouri.

Culbert played the “joker” backer position, sort of a cross between defensive back and linebacker, in an effort to combat the talents of MU quarterback Chase Daniel. Culbert was among the team leaders in tackles Saturday with six.

Culbert spent a few minutes Tuesday with the Journal Star’s John Mabry.

I think culbert is a stud! this kid is going to make a difference at nebraska! He plays with excitment, enthusiasm, fire, and intesity! He is a spark that our D can use for the remainder of the season.

I am excited this kid is playing for us now. He has a lot of talent, and it's great to see him getting on the field.

It's only one game, let's see what happens from here on out. Francione isn't stupid, he'll find a way to get him blocked. But then of course others will be freed up.

I don't think that Culbert played that well that teams would have to go out of their way to key on him. I also don't think that we will use much of the 30 defense or the Joker position used against aTm. However I do hope that he sees some action at the safety position this week and continues to help our defense.

I'm glad Major was able to contribute the way he did. He was not only very productive in the game but in doing so he allowed our linebacker to take a game off and heal up for the a&m game.

What they used him for doesnt seem to be in the cards for the aggies. MU wasa spread passing team using 4(or 5) WRs nearly every down. A&M is more focused on power running games, where the 4-3 works well.
