Charter flight to Bowl Game Cancelled.

I lived in Jacksonville several years ago for 5 months on a work assignment. I sure as hell wouldn't pay real money to go there again. Jacksonville doen't have much to offer.

Also, I'm sure Husker fans are saving up for the inevitable national championship game that a significant portion of Huskerboard members believe Pelini will soon take us to.

I drove through Jacksonville a while back late at night. I'm surprised I didn't fall asleep.

This is the first time it's happened in over 25 years. The best traveling fan base appears to have a little more people disenfranchised with the current state affairs then a loud, vocal minority it appears.

I wonder if even 2000 tickets will be sold through the University.
.

I think it's less about "current state of affairs" and more about who we're playing. Nice jab with your agenda though.
Read the article and you'll see the owner of the companies opinion

Finances are something to consider here. In the Big 12 we were smack dab in the center. It was relatively easy to get to any away conference game. Now we're on the outside edge so it's a trip to get to most places. Combine this with the location and opponent rematch with a division in the fan base and more disinterest then we've seen since the cally finale....

I'm not going because of cost 600 air fare 250 hotel plus food and what not. Cost of travel is killing most of us, wages remain low and house whole costs increase it's life. To me it is not the place or who we are playing.

Please refresh me. How many empty seats for last year CapitalOne bowl? (approximately). Three quarters full or less? I don't trust box score attendance.

Addem research: box score said 59,712 attendance. That's 85% capacity......10,517 empty seats

Just confirmation on where the coaching staff has this program currently. We saw the trends in Lincoln with empty seats, and now it's continuing with the bowl game. I spent almost $1000 total to go to last year's Big Ten championship game to see a terrible product displayed on the field. I would say others are saving their money for this year's bowl game.

Donation requirements for season tickets in 2014 have dropped significantly from 2013. It's not just bowl game attendance that is beginning to suffer.

I know many fans are not the Debbie Downer that I can be but there are many factors stacked against this bowl being a big draw for Husker fans.

1- Rematch

2- Not much reason to think our team will perform much differently than it did all season and that wasn't particularly good unless you like a solid 1.5 to 2 quarters max. of football in a 4 quarter game.

3- Our track record the last few seasons against teams with a heartbeat and lack of being competitive with them. I can't imagine too many fans want to spend that amount of money on travel when the rational expectation isn't extremely bright.

IMO the rematch would not be an issue if we were playing at a higher level and if this bowl game actually meant something in the overall scheme of things. It's not like we're trying to hang on to a top 10 or 15 ranking or even to break into the top 25 with a victory. It's just kind blah at this point.

Having said that, I am glad we're in a good bowl game and have a solid opponent. There are many lower level bowl games that we could have legitimately been stuck with and I've got nothing but respect for the Georgia program. I'll be cheering and hoping like hell that we play a good game, that our defense continues their improvement, and that something positive finally happens in the offense and special teams area. We need something to give us some hope and replenish the Kool-Aid jug. Recruiting has been a bright spot lately but the proof will always be on the field of play.

If people don't want to go that's their decision. There's a lot of things to factor in, coach, the way the team plays, re-match of last year, just played in the Gator Bowl in '08, this will be the 3rd straight bowl game in Florida, there's broke people like me that don't have the chance to go, and plenty of others. I would hope that those with disposable income would go, or at least give me a nice Christmas present.

If we had our high speed bullet trains that Obama promised then airfare wouldn't be an issue.
Yeah. That bullet train from Lincoln or Omaha to Jacksonville was inevitable until Obama dropped the ball.
You would have transfers obviously <.<

St Louis to Atlanta to Jacksonville or something to that effect.
I can't believe you had a response. And I can't believe you responded with that. I thought about things I could say, but now, I think I want you to win. I really feel sorry for you on this one.

The only reason who we're playing has anything to do with it is because we are not playing very well or involved in any meaningful situation. Don't kid yourself into thinking this isn't a lot more about where this team is currently at than some rematch opponent. The only reason the Washington Holiday bowl rematch was like that was because it was a same season rematch and our team was not playing at a high level then either. I remember people constantly complaining when were playing Florida teams (Florida, FSU, & Miami) year after year after year but, the fans still travelled well. I might be a f'n fairweather fan but I have little desire to go see my Huskers get beat. It will always have more to do with how our team is doing than who the opponent is.
