New look for a new year at Nebraska

The Huskers were fundamentally sound Wednesday. They tackled exceptionally well. They were smart, making good decisions under duress. They adjusted well at halftime. They won the turnover battle. They scored twice after takeaways. They were ultra-efficient in the red zone -- on both sides.

Nebraska did not botch a punt return. The Huskers won a game against an SEC team despite being outgained by more than 100 yards.

This is what Nebraska football can be.

They didn't botch a punt return, but they didn't return one either.

Great win, let's not ignore the changes that need to be made.

"Gregory is an SEC caliber defender.'

". . . the Huskers aren't stocked with SEC-type talent."

The ESPN love affair with the SEC gets old.

This is very true.

What they shouldn’t accept is mistake-filled football. The Huskers beat Georgia largely by avoiding mistakes. In the Big Ten, they can win big that way.
We have talent. We have coaches that know how to put the players in the right position to win. Eliminate the mistakes and this team can do very good things.

I really enjoyed today's game. Couldn't find a lot to complain about on the field, and yes, I watch closely for our f#$kups.

Our offensive line needs to learn to sustain blocks and could get more assignment sound.

Our passing game needs to incorporate more than just vertical routes. Though one worked out for the longest pass play in college football history.

Our special teams needs to look for the ball and take advantage of opportunities to down the ball deep in opponents territory.

Not a lot to complain about. I liked the mood. I liked the effort. Defense was the highlight of the day for the most part. I like seeing armstrong growing out there. I love the fact that he rallied the guys in the sideline.

This game left me with a good feeling. PROGRESS. It's good to see.

We were blocking the punt coverage unit, which has not always been the case.

They punted four times and only averaged 38 yards per punt. Punts less than 40 yards landing on your own 10 yard line do not get returned by anyone very often.

I'm not sure what game you were watching, but this is not true. Nearly every time there was NU covering for the fake and five UGA guys streaking towards Westercamp unblocked

I was watching the game that actually happened. Not just finding things to complain about.

Ok fine,

But maintaining the status quo and saying everything is great at this moment is exactly the wrong thing to do at this moment.

I'm happy with the bowl win, but Nick Saban found things to complain about after the national championship game last year.

It was, actually.

It was a good bowl win. It truly, honestly was. I'm happy about it. But I hope it leads to Bo saying "there's a lot we can work on and we aren't there yet" instead of him being defiant after a Miami loss next year saying "I'm not apologizing for anything, I won the ******* Gator Bowl nine months ago!"

The fun part will be seeing how it unfolds until then.

I distinctly remember us blocking the punt coverage well 1-2 times, I mentioned it in the game thread. I can only remember reverting back to our weird blocking "scheme" once.

I remember pausing it and looking to see what NU did and I saw what I saw.

Field position was skewed all game.

Either way, Nebraska won, I'm happy about that, and I enjoy talking about. Nebraska football. I just hope that this win doesn't translate to a "everything's fine," motif. Good vibes are good, ignoring your problems are not.
