NU a playoff darkhorse?

The last sentence is tasteless - can tell the guy doesn't know Tom. This thread kind of correlates wt the FSU vs NU thread but looks at NU as a possible surprise team this year like Auburn was.

I think we have the potential to be very good - if all of the issues are resolved which we've talked about before and we don't have the large # of key injuries that destroyed this year from being special. While the playoff may be a real pipe dream (in that we also have to overcome our lack of relevance reputation and the Big 10s reputation) I'd be very happy for a CC and the Rose Bowl.

Nebraska: 50/1

Bo Pelini survived the season despite constant speculation about his job status, but the Huskers coach should have his best team since taking over in 2008. An improving defense could become one of the Big Ten’s best, while the offense could be electric if running back Ameer Abdullah returns to Lincoln. Plus, having legendary coach Tom Osborne on the 13-member playoff selection committee can’t hurt.

As far as the remark at Osborne, there better damn well be disclaimers like that tagged to the chances of Arkansas, Wisconsin, USC, West Virginia, and Clemson, because those schools also have direct employees on the committee as well.

After last season, I think it's safe to say that preseason predictions are pretty much crap when you never know what injuries a team has to endure.

We're probably not a bad darkhorse to pick. We have a decent schedule next season. Toughest games are Wisconsin and Sparty on the road. We don't play tOSU. And our one decent non-conf game is Miami in Lincoln. Those 50-1 odds don't look too bad really.

I think MSU is set to lose quite a bit to graduation? Wisconsin will be tough with NU playing a young QB.

Whereas Wisconsin only really seems to return their qb

Agree with ya NUance. With nine starts, and two bye weeks, under his belt Stanton will be a seasoned vet by the time we play Wiscy.

QB, 4/5 on the OLine, 2/3 of the best Running Back group in the B1G all return.

Much of the defense and top two recievers gone.

More than that I was looking at a road game for us in Camp Randall. Always a tough place to play. Especially in November.

We play Sparty on the road too. But they just don't have the homefield advantage that the Vadgers have.

he is not wrong. i do not think it hurts having osborne on the committee. i really do not think it helps, but it also does not hurt.

maybe by just having the other members in his presence, they will be reminded of nebraska's greatness and they will project that onto the current team?
