The thing that gets me is that this seems to be a common theme. KU, OSU and A&M are the worst examples. Come out guns ablazin and then blow it. Everyone keeps saying, "We just need to finish games out." "We just need to play 4 quarters." Then why arent' we? Im sure the coaches know we need to play 4 quarters also. But there is a flaw somewhere that is not being fixed. We just need to finish games out. If we played the first half like we did the second, no one would be near us. There are a few other errors to work out, but this staff is a good one imo. The D played great in the 1st half, and even most of the 3rd, but laid multiple eggs in the 4th q. I love Callahan though, and am happy that he is our coach.
The same problem was had last year, except then it was starting games. Texas Tech, OU, Missouri. In all of those games we came out like we were getting over a hangover and then picked it up, made the score close, but didn't have enough to get over the hump. We have finally figured out the problem of slow starts, but only to create a problem of slow finishes, especially 3rd qtr play.
This isn't the only example of a problem occuring, fixing it, and then it reoccuring. In 2004, our special teams were horrible. Last year, they were great, a vast improvement. This year, they have digressed to mediocre. Special teams probably lost us the Texas game. So why is the team so inconsistent and bassackwards.
Don't get me wrong, this was a great win, the blocked fg reminded me of Pitt last year. But if we are going to be serious contenders, why when one problem is solved, a new problem crops up?
