Team USA - Sochi Hockey

The two teams are playing different styles. The US is dumping it in and trying to cycle it, but the Russians are being more aggressive with their defense and actively pursuing the puck rather than remaining fully compact. We haven't adjusted our offense to deal with that, yet. On the other side, the Russians are playing a counter game, and are taking advantage of the US staying more compact in their defensive zone.

Advantage Red Menace, but only marginally. Neither side is really getting what I'd call "good" chances. Plenty of chances, but most of them have been routine for the goalies.

I liked our forecheck better in the 2nd, but Russia is still carrying the advantage. They look a bit sharper and their transition is better, as is their defense against our transition.

USA vs. Russia.

GREAT game but I didn't like international shootout rules (one shooter player). NHL is better shootout rules IMO (team vs. one individual).

Dumb question..... international rinks are slightly larger than NHL? Kinda like Canadian and United States football fields.

The announcers said the rink they were playing on is 13 feet wider than NHL rinks.

I thought that rule that negated Russia's goal was kind of dumb, but at least it played in our favor. heh

You are correct

Width: International 98ft - NHL 85ft

Length: same dimension

However....

Blue line and Goal line distance (attack zone): International 58ft - NHL 64ft

Goal line and behind board: International 13ft - NHL 11ft

Blue lines distance: International 58ft - NHL 50ft
