Huskers seek more 3rd Qtr scoring

This is a case in which Nebraska football coaches wish the numbers lied.

In seven Big 12 Conference games this season, the Huskers have scored a not-so-grand total of seven points in the third quarter — on I-back Marlon Lucky’s 40-yard touchdown run Oct. 14 at Kansas State.

Nebraska has scored a total of 42 third-quarter points in 11 games while averaging 107 points apiece in quarters one, two and four.

I don't think we scored in the 3rd against USC did we? That means of the 42 3rd quarter points in 11 games, we scored 35 against the powerhouses of LaTech, Nicholls State and Troy. Yeeeesh.

However, it is on both sides of the ball that the coaches need to look at the numbers. Anyone know how many points opponents have scored in the 3rd quarter? It would be really interesting to see how many 1st or 2nd posessions of the 3rd have resulted in scores.

Halftime adjustments.........

I'm not sure what possesion these scores were made but all of them came in the 3rd Qtr.

USC-1 TD

KU-1 TD (missed Xtra pt) and a field goal

KSU-Field Goal

OSU-3 TD's

MU-1TD

A&M-Field Goal

And if my pea sized brain did the math correctly (higher math eludes me) that means NU defense gave up 50 pts in the 3rd Qtr so far.

By the same token, this is what has been scored on us during the 2nd Qtr

LaTech-Field and 1 TD

USC-1 TD

KU-Field goal and 1 TD

ISU-1 TD

UT-2 TD's

OSU-3 TD's

MU-2 Field Goals

A&M-1 Field Goal

Again, higher math eludes me but this means 78pts have been scored on us in the 2nd Qtr.

I'm sure this is something that the coaches have seen developing all season. I'm curious to just what we'll see different against Colorado.

Point taken Husker-Okie. I guess it just seems/feels like the defense gets picked apart coming out of the gate in the second half. Probably don't notice it as much in the 2nd quarter becuase generally the offense is piling up the numbers.

As a fan, I have felt a huge drop-off/let down in the second half of nearly every game this year...can't help but think players and coaches feel that too. Just a 'flow of the game' thing I guess.

I agree cmb. :thumbs I was actually a tad surprised to see opponents score more in the 2nd Qtr than they do in the 3rd.

Yes...huge surprise to me to see that they gave up more in the 2nd than the 3rd.

I guess I'm still expecting the Blackshirts to come out of the gate at the beginning of every half and dominate...not be average. Again...It just seems like opponents offenses get into a 'flow' in the 3rd quarter that disrupts the flow of the game for NU on both sides of the ball.

That being said...I guess it is up to the offense to get their heads straight for the 3 upcoming 2nd halves. Oh, and if they want to keep up the strong 1st halves too to go along with it that would be nice!

OSU was held scoreless in the third...

:bang :bang :bang

Yeah they were. I read that wrong. That makes the 2nd Qtr scoring by opponents more of a concern then
