Football student tickets remain on sale

With the university's fall classes beginning Monday and the Husker football season starting next Saturday, there are still student season tickets for sale, though athletic department officials are hoping a weekend push could take care of the matter.

According to Chris Anderson, Nebraska's associate athletic director for community relations, there are approximately 450 of the 8,500 allotted student tickets still remaining.

Anderson said on Thursday afternoon that NU "will continue to sell to new students until the start of the season, utilizing opportunities such as the Big Red Welcome on August 22 and the Welcome Festival Street Fair on August 24."

If there are still remaining going into next week?

"We will wait until next week to determine what we will do with any remaining tickets. (if there are any)," she said.

There is still a worry that there are 450 student tickets left a week before the season kicks off.

Most obvious solution as far as the college is concerned - fewer student tickets next year. And the tickets that are released are going to go to the front of the section, meaning the students will be sitting further from the field.

Maybe a better solution - lower student ticket prices. What are they now, just an arm or is it an arm & a leg?

The university is doing that student guest program this year also to try and fill the student sections, students can bring a guest for $45 a game.

NEW FOR 2014- Students will now be able to purchase one guest ticket per game for football, provided they are a football season ticket holder and did not purchase a spouse or dependent child ticket. Tickets will be sold on a first-come first-served basis, beginning 10 days prior to each home game on Huskers.com. Guest tickets will be emailed as a print-at-home ticket. The cost for each single-game student guest ticket is $45. There will be a minimum of 250 guest tickets available for each home football game, for seating in the South Stadium only.

Lots of the new crop of students were basically not even watching Husker games the last time they were good. Even if you go to 2001 they would have been like 5ish.

They're 160,which I don't think is bad at all. But I grew up watching the huskers. For kids who might just choose the school and have no affiliation to the team, 160 for weekend social events might be too much. Or they'd just rather get drunk and not go. I enjoy doing both.

Student tickets are $21 per game, the last I knew of. I might be in the minority, but I wouldn't be against buying a general admission ticket at a reduced price ($45 or so) to sell up the allotment of unused student tickets.

With how strong our athletic department is as a whole, if I was the AD I would make student tickets free the way almost any small college does. You miss out on a little over a million dollars in ticket revenue, but I feel like that would easily be offset.
