He tried to stiff arm and his hand came out all floppy

I would say broken wrist. When they showed him on the sideline, his arm was swollen just about up to his elbow.

I have no idea if that is actually what happened, just my guess. However if it does turn out to be broken, he would probally only need about four weeks in a cast to have it heel. That would be right around the game when it would come off.
