What is your take on this guy??

People can drink if they want that is their business but don't act like an a$$. If you can't handle it don't do it.

As far as the people getting mad about standing and yelling that is stupid. That should be expected at a Football game. Booing is LAME though.

 
There was a time when sporting events were family events. That for the most part is just not the case. I wouldn't take my 8 year old to a game these days. She picks up on enough of my poor behavior I don't need her mimicking the poor behavior of so many others. Granted it is still the minority but the minority is growing. It's not just college or pro athletics either these days.

Far too many people feel that they can do whatever they feel like because they bought a ticket. Well I bought a ticket as well and don't see anywhere on the ticket that it says I or my daughter should be exposed to this type of vulgarity. It's just a sign of the times. "What I want is important and everyone else can just deal with it" attitude is getting more common these days. You won't however see any changes until such behaviors begin to have a negative effect on ticket sales or the university. Neither of which are probable any time soon.

My thought for the day is. "If your going to use such language and act in such a manner go to a hockey game where it's the tradition and not to a Husker game". Just one of about 4,000 reasons why I don't like hockey. Once you get past the great music and light show it pretty much goes down hill after that.

I agree that the society norms have changed, but that is the way it is. I was at a Gophers hockey game a couple of weeks ago and it was absolutely insane how drunk the fans were and some of people around them were getting annoyed. I am just 3 years out of college and I was shocked, but I dealt with it.....don't bring a family to the game and sit in the student section!!!!

The problem is that depending upon the event it's not just the student section. If you have kids and you attend any public event there is a possibility you will run into these types of people. I've bumped into it at Salt dawgs games in Lincoln. I must admit however that when someone in the section complained the staff took action, escorted the parties out. The company I worked for had season tickets as did the company this knucklehead worked for. Rumour has it that after too many complaints the company lost their season tickets for the following year.

I will say this. The Nebraska fans have a reputation for being "the classiest fans in college football". This is not a label they gave themselves but was given to them by others. It's a great deal easier to get the same rep as say CU but it takes much more time, effort and history to get the rep we have now. I question if the good rep we have really matters and if so why make excuses for bad behavior? Why not keep the good rep and rid ourselves of the bad apples? Just a thought.

 
I think we also need to get rid of all of the hitting, pushing and tackling the game has become way to violent for the Blue hairs and Offspring to watch. How about changing it to two hand touch or flags?????????

 
I can't say I agree that the "blue hairs" think that football is too violent. They just don't like the behavior at games now....NU games and all games alike. It is different and since I don't have kids, I don't know how I would react to some jack-hole making a fool of himself/herself by slurring inappropriate comments during the game. I guess you can try to make it educational as parents and point out that if you drink like that on a consistent basis you will end up looking that foolish when you get older.

 
As a college aged person here, I have to say that yea, college students get outta hand rather easily. But are you going to be able to stop college kids from partying?? More than likely not. Some put liquor in a flask to sneak it into games. Maybe thats Security's fault for not checking thoroughly. I'm sure that some of the fans that are mild mannered now, probably were the same when they were in college. I'm sure that most of these "roudy kids" will become more mild mannered as they get older. But you never know. I've seen middle aged men get outta hand at some games. Can you have a good time without getting drunk? Yea. But you're not gunna stop it from happening. You can't expect to attend a COLLEGE sporting event, and not have crazy drunk COLLEGE kids. It happens everywhere. I know I've done things at games that I'm not particularly proud of and I've been trying stop myself from swearing so much. But what can you do? Not let tailgaters into the games?

 
There is nothing that really can be done...except if it is completely out of hand, then security can escort them out. As it was said a few times, it is the times and people need to adjust. I know it probably sucks really bad to bring your kids to a game and afterwards have to discuss what was said, but that is a risk I guess you have to take.

 
I think we are making excuses, just a little bit anyway. First it's not just "college kids". Just like not all college kids drink, and not all college kids that drink act like fools and not every one that drinks is a college kid and not everyone that drinks and acts like a fool is in college either and not everyone that acts like a fool is a drinks............not even sure I understand all of that. We blame it on the college kids, we blame it on alcohol we blame it on our childhood. A jerk is a jerk whether young or old sober or drunk.

We sort of expect such behavior from college kids. Hey they are young domb and full of life and it happens. We can tone it down a little from time to time but probably not stop it. The real issue is do we and should we accept such behavior in other areas outside of the student section as well?

Now I'm getting cranky. Here's my list of complaints:

People who park in handicapped stalls and aren't handycapped. We make arrangement to handicap them so they are then legal.

People who park in the firelane outside the store. We can set you on fire so you fit in with the sign that says "fire lane no parking". If your too dumb to read or understand the little symbols on similar signs you probably won't feel the pain anyway.

The thumper bumper stereo going by my house at midnight loud enough to wake up every dog in the neighborhood. Hey I understand that's what your into. I enjoy the shooting sports and nobody will hear the gunshots over your stereos. My hobby is as good as yours.

People who block doorways and hallways to visit. These are coridors for the passing of people too and frow. They are not places for you to stop and visit holding up others that probably have more to do than stand around and visit with you at the 2nd grade level you understand.

ND football complaining that they dropped in the polls after winning or after having a week off. You shouldn't be ranked there anyway, get over it. Better yet go play the #25 ranked team and loose so you can drop to 5th in the polls instead of 4th.

CU fans complaining that the world is out to get them and NU is the great evil in the Big 12. Your team stinks this year, we all go through down years it's just that when you start a little lower you also fall a little lower. Get over it.

CU fans complaining that Husker fans call themselves "the greatest fans in college football". No they don't call themselves that. Someone else did. Just like you don't call yourselves the worst fans, someone else did.

Airplane seat made for people that or 4'8" tall and weight 90 lbs. 1 hour onboard and my back hurts, my kneck hurts and my backside falls to sleep and is that fumes from the dirty laundry in the luggage hold your pumping in for me to breath or straight exhaust fumes.

4'8" 80 old that like the exit row. Come on the door weights more than you do and my knees are jammed into the guy in the seat in front of me.

Back to subject, obnoxious drunks in general.

Public events that I was able to attend as a kid but can't with my own kids out of fear of physical harm, verbal abuse or just general vulgar behavior.

Paying for cable just to find out that with 130 channels there still isn't anything good on.

The NBA - This must be the worst of all professional sports. Make millions of dollars, take a play or game or whatever off just because they want to. No one really cares how many games they win just as long as they make the play offs.

Steroid use in professional sports especially those like baseball where you can now become the all time everything by popping some pills, taking a shot or drinking dragon juice.

I would go on but my blood pressure is up and besides the boss told me I couldn't use the company computer for personal use after hours. I guess he should have said something about using it for the same purpose on company time.

Growing up, I played football, while my brother went the hockey route. Hockey was (and still is) something that's not my taste. Anyways I don't go to his games, not because I don't care for hockey, but because of the parents. These parents make soccer hooligans look tame! :hellloooo and the kid must be proud when his father (or mother) is thrown out because of their behavior.

Being a college student myself, I know firsthand that students can get out of control. But having more self-control (someone told me I was born 40 years too late), I just have to stop cussin' (someone else told me that I've got a mouth that would make a trucker blush :o ).

 
Unfortunately I missed the CCG. Had tickets but flights were delayed. My son and his friends went to the game.

I talked to him today about the fans and how bad it was. His comments were that he really did not see anything out of the way. No fights, a few Fbombs but over all if he had kids he would have taken them to the game.

I guess it is asking alot for people to behave like people or adults. I spent along time in the Marine Corps, dealing with young kids that like the beer as much as anyone. Most could get out of control in a heart beat, so I have some idea of what can happen.

Being a very cold event, the beer took the chill off. I would imagine the same comments are being made on the Oklahoma side.

RESPECT for your elders, (someday you will be a blue hair, no matter how old they seem, you will be one of them down the road, trust me on that) your peers and their families is all that anyone can ask. My son seemed to feel the game was okay, and the Nebraska fans acted as well as they did at the Texas game. I had a great time at the Texas game and saw nothing of the bad fans. I will take his opinon of the situation and hope he is right.

 
It appears my earlier post came across as me putting all the blame on college age kids.That was not my intent,though I stand by my oppinion of decending morals,character, honor,etc. As far as Husker football,I think the blame crosses over age lines,and falls on the shoulder of 'joe fan' that makes weak personal decisions about how he will conduct himself in public.I raised hell in my day, and did some of the elicit things college kids do, but when I was in public,I tried to go by the standards that the generation befor me laid out.

At the game in KC, I sat in the south endzone,east of the goalposts around row 23 or so, and we were loud, and never sat down, and I really think for the most part, people were having clean fun, until the alchohol kicked in.I sat infront of a loudmouth, who I'd guess was 40ish, and as the game went on, and he became more frustrated by our play, and the score, he turned into Mr. idiot, who was cursing, yelling stupid things about what the coaches should do ,etc. I was sitting with 4 of my kids,all college age,2 being daughters, and I finally turned around and told him to watch his language.I mentioned that I was aware he was frustrated, but he was ruining the experience for people around him, and I didn't want my daughters to have to here him.Of coarse, the first thing out of his mouth was"hey buddy, I'm very educated about football,so dont tell me to be quiet". I told him I disagreed about his football inteligence, because I had had to listen to him the entire game, and the cursing needed to stop.It literally could have turned into a altercation, if the buddies he was with had not stepped in, and told him to cool it. Now the guy was a jacka$$ in general, but would have been much less so without his getting so drunk.

 
Although I think that fans should have the freedom to yell and taunt opponents to create a hostile environment and create a home field advantage, I think dropping the F-bomb all over the place is overkill. But I have no problem with fans trash talking, or booing.
