lol explain to these guys how hard it is to become cscs cert and what it means really. I always get a kick out of the strength coach talk. Blaming the st rrngth coach is particularly hilarious to me. With all of the infinite sh#t house wisdom among this forum please start a shared excel sheet and design a program. Philosophy. Would also be entertaining. Thanks in advance

Young, fun and likable. Exactly what these kids need to transition to the new staff. Remember, this guy will spend more time with these kids than any of the coaches will until spring. I also like that he's Polynesian. We stopped getting those kids when some jackhole ex-player said Poly kids weren't welcome in Nebraska.

 
For a S/C coach, job knowledge and experience are obvious prerequisites but the buy-in of the student athlete is the key to success IMHO.

It seems as if Philipp comes with high marks for his ability to relate to the players and that should work wonders.

Given the situation - Riley truly has to coach up the entire program, from the secretaries to the players and each person in between, to get everyone united on one path with the same goals in mind. Tall task but thus far he seems uniquely qualified to do so.

In my book, a hire like Philipp is a good (and needed) step in that direction.

Hope its a good hire. If Boyd Epply had input then it likely is.

Had anyone else heard that Bo had Dobson run S&C on the honor system? It was up to the players whether to show up because they are "grown men".

 
If BE is behind it, I am not sure why others are not. Perhaps what will make this hire special is beyond him having the credentials and education to teach strength and conditioning and create programs; but also to be able to install a dominant attitude and year-round culture of dedication towards improvement. Isn't that what sets all great coaches apart from the rest? Perhaps more than any other facet of preparation, the strength and speed work you do off season does more to improve you than what you do from the end of summer to the bowl game.

Boyd made recommendations for Dobson when Bo hired him. Gave him high praises also.

I really like this hire. Young, energetic and will relate with players.

Agreed it's like any other coach. They can have the skill but it kids don't like him. They won't care or won't work for him. It's a blend of a lot of things

I'm brain farting on who it was. Who was the guy that transferred away and ended up at Oregon? His excuse was he wanted to be closer to his 80 year old dad in Salt Lake City.
