Offense Huskers SHOULD Run?

Riley has said before that they only have about 5-6 run plays and they mix that in with play action. Whatever you call the offense, it will be a reflection of the talent.

We should run the one Urban Meyer likes, where he can start his 3rd string QB and still put up 40 a game. I'd like that one.
Bothers me that Urban Meyer is probably one of the top college coaches opted to hire Tim Beck as an offensive coordinator. Beck must have been better than we thought.
Not really. He's about what we thought he was. A very creative offensive mind, but awful at managing that entire side of the ball himself.

Urb hired Beck to coach QBs and as a Co-OC who doesn't call plays. So basically he's be drawing up plays and coaching a position he clearly has no ability to develop.

Exactly.

I always loved some things Beck did. A damn creative offensive mind. I even said at one point that his scheme could be good if someone gave it a "once over". No one better to learn from than Urban Meyer. Beck needs someone above him to tell him how to run his offense, to help mold and perfect the scheme he has in his mind. He didn't have anyone here, he was it. That was the problem.

A great move by Urban Meyer. The BEST break a guy like Beck can ask for. I expect it to go very well for all parties involved.

Just don't....say....the words "gimmicky", "pro-style", or "reading defenses."

People get all worked up around here when you use that words incorrectly...right, Count Billy?

We know that Coach Riley likes a pro-style offense (quarterback under center, one back, etc.). We know he has a reputation for developing quarterbacks and receivers. He's offered to a prototypical pro-style quarterback in the '16 class. But at the same time, he has a reputation for adapting to the talent on hand, and for the most part, the current recruiting class is - by necessity given the timing - a case of preserving what the prior staff had gathered. So given all that, plus the talent we have returning, what offense SHOULD the Huskers run next season? Is it better to play to current strengths, or should we try to start transitioning to the system Riley prefers?

So, what should it be? And why? What are the advantages and disadvantages for each system given everything?
Here's just a few of the formations I'd run:

- Bunch

- IForm (Including Power I, Weak and Strong I)

- Split (Pro, Ace, and Trae)

- Gun

I still dont know what pro style means.
Expect the QB under center more often than we have seen in awhile. Also, expect to see the QB call the plays, not have the whole team looking to the sidelines. The expectation will be that the QB actually read the defense than just wait on a signal. I would also say we will see less of the running game executed from next to the QB. Watch the NFL playoff games today, and compare that to what we have seen the last few years.
yeah i know the perception of pro style. Lol. Its still a pretty vague term. Even Riley himself laughed at the notion at his introductory presser.
I think you get it. It is a vague term that describes a broad style of offense. There's not much more to get.

When I saw this, the first thought I had was the offense we ran under Bill Callahan.

That's not a bad thing either, I know we like to think of him as a villian, but let's remember we had some great players in that offense. My first thought was what we were able to do with Brandon Jackson in formations included above.

In the video, just about every one of the formations is utilized.

One of my favorite plays that we ran under Callahan was the pitch sweep in the bunch formation. I wish we ran more sweeps besides jet sweep this year. Especially against USC, I think we would have definitely had some success attacking their edges.
