Scouting Iowa
Iowa is 16-10 on the season and 7-6 in the Big Ten following an 81-47 win against Rutgers Thursday night. With the win, the Hawkeyes snapped a two-game losing streak, as they had lost at Northwestern and against Minnesota. Iowa has been up and down in Big Ten play, posting wins at Ohio State and Michigan, but has gone 3-5 in its last eight contests.
The Hawkeyes brought back three starters and 10 lettermen for Head Coach Fran McCaffery, who is in his fifth season at Iowa after serving stints at Lehigh, UNC Greensboro and Siena. The Hawkeyes went 20-13 before losing to Tennessee in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
The Hawkeyes are one of the deeper teams in the Big Ten as nine players average at least 10 minutes per game while no player averages 30 minutes per contest. Iowa features six players who average at least 7.0 points per game. Senior forward Aaron White leads Iowa in both scoring (14.5 ppg) and rebounding (7.0 rpg) while junior forward Jarrod Uthoff chips in 12.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. The Hawkeyes are a solid defensive team, holding opponents to under 40 percent shooting and blocking 4.6 shots per game to rank third in the conference.
