I really thought our Achilles heel was crossing routes and guys getting outside..... It still appears to be a weakness in the new scheme as well. The scary part, Bo's D per the article was designed to get the runners turned back inside. I guess Wisky and others missed that. The comments from Hail Varsity:
>>Adjusting from Bo Pelinis route-matching defense in the secondary to more zone coverage principles has stood out as one of the slower processes. Defensive backs were inconsistent Wednesday both with pre-snap assignments and coverage assignments mid-play, especially on crossing routes and plays in the middle of the field. Those will probably be where the biggest change happens with Nebraskas secondary play in the new defense.
>>Similarly, bouncing plays to outside leverage is proving to be a concept that will also take time for the defense to adjust to. Pelinis defense aimed to keep the big plays inside or near the hashes where they had hats to make tackles, whereas Mark Bankers defense aims to spill the ball toward the sideline and (presumably) unblocked players.
Man, I hope we get that stuff fixed!
