10 B1G teams among the 40 richest schools in the country

You can check my math but I got PAC-4, ACC-4, SEC-2 and B12-1. I did not assign the State University system of Florida to any of the p5 conferences since it includes 12 state universities in FL including FSU and UF.

Also recently published, number of students who scored greater than 95% on CPA exam from the P5 conferences below. A school can have more than 1 - I think Texas had all 4 for the b12.

Big 10 - 11
ACC - 5
Big 12 - 4
PAC - 3
SEC - 3

I guess the b10 has good CPAs to count all their money.

Johns Hopkins plays lacrosse in the B1G. So we can claim them. B1G has 11 of the richest schools
Heh. I did not know that.

Nice!

Surprised to see Nebraska that high honestly. We really aren't that large of a school for being a flagship university and we don't have that old entrenched money like a lot of schools in the East do. That being said Nebraska has done a great job raising its profile this last decade, despite all the Perlman hate.

Top 20 are all private and bottom 20 are all public. Top public is Texass. NU is #19 public. I guess we are well endowed?

How in the world is Colorado on that list? I've been told (in 2013) that their athletic department is basically bankrupt.

Most schools don't make $ from sports. I think there may be less than 20 football programs that make a profit. Doesn't mean the school is also broke.

I was very surprised as well. I would have never guessed that UNL would rank that high. Taking away the athletics, I believe that Harv has done a good job in growing the university.

True, we are not the 39th wealthiest university, as the private schools stop at $4.9M and we are at $3.6M. And comparing public to private probably doesn't make much sense. I'm not even sure it makes sense to say that UNL is the 19th wealthiest public university because some of them are University Systems listed (Texas, Florida, A&M, NY, MD).

I'm not familiar with the economics of a university system, but why does tuition continue to rise if these schools are making so much money?

You need to re-order the list by wealth for the actual rankings

WSJ did a poor job with that list. It's really 2 lists, the top 20 private, and the top 20 public. Texas at 36.7M falls 2nd on the private list, but it may include much more than UT-Austin. I'd bet California includes Berkeley, UCLA, etc. too. And Nebraska may include UNO, UNK, and UNMC.
