Good call. I had to look that one up. And it's crazy that we weren't ranked. We went 9-4 in 2008. Took #7 Texas Tech to OT before losing. Beat Clemson in the Gator Bowl. Yet we were still unranked.2008 (Pelini's first year). Before that, 2004 (Callahan's first year). Before that, 1962, Devaney's first year, when there was only a top 10. 1961 before that, and much of the 1950s.
We also gave up 50+ and 60+ to Missouri and Oklahoma and started the year 3-3. While they finished stronger there was no reason one way or the other that they should be ranked or unrankedGood call. Mizzou was ranked #4 at the time. And coincidentally, a month later Oklahoma was ranked #4 too. They both hung lots of points on everyone they played. OU didn't score less than 60 from November on, except when they played #1 Florida in the BCS championship game. LINKWe also gave up 50+ and 60+ to Missouri and Oklahoma and started the year 3-3. Damn right! Because who cares about perception!!! Surely recruits don't!!I really do not care about the ranking media gives..................................
A lot of those players were only good compared to their teammates, so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here.Pelini had quite a roster to work with in 2008 when NU stayed unranked all season:
Joe Ganz
Marlon Lucky
Roy Helu
Ndomukong Suh
Prince Amukamara
Niles Paul
Kyler Reed
Eric Hagg
Phillip Dillard
Alex Henery
Matt Slauson
Lydon Murtha
Nate Swift
Barry Turner
Todd Peterson
Alfonzo Dennard
Zach Potter
There's a lot of talent there. Too much to end up being unranked one would think. Then again it's a Pelini team we're talking about here.A lot of those players were only good compared to their teammates, so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here.Pelini had quite a roster to work with in 2008 when NU stayed unranked all season:

We lost to every ranked team we played that year and the 62-28 thrashing we took at Oklahoma didn't help our case. Missouri also beat us 52-17 that season.
