When jack gangwish returns, does Freedom revert back to being a backup?
Somebody else needs to start getting to the quarterback because our secondary is being asked to cover guys for a boxer 10 count every snap.
I think there's a place for both. D-line is the one place it makes sense to substitute liberally. Maybe more so on the interior. But it seems like it'd help to have fresh legs on the outside too.How many captains at Nebraska have not been starters? I think that is what might happen with Gangwish
Maybe I'm on crack for thinking this, but wouldn't we want him on the interior until we can get some semblance of a linebacker corps going again? When jack gangwish returns, does Freedom revert back to being a backup?

You don't mean Freedom on the inside, do you? Not sure he's suited for that at 255. Gangwish might be a better choice to move inside. He's a bit bigger and stronger. I think the best guy to shift inside might be McMullen. He seems to have the size and strength for it. But we're plenty deep inside, so it really wouldn't add anything. Even so we need waaay more help at DE than DT.Maybe I'm on crack for thinking this, but wouldn't we want him on the interior until we can get some semblance of a linebacker corps going again? When jack gangwish returns, does Freedom revert back to being a backup?

And I agree that Freedom and Gangwish should be on the field at the same time. Just not sure how/what roles.
No, Gangwish, as you said. Couldn't remember Freedom's weight, but he doesn't look big enough to put inside anyway. You don't mean Freedom on the inside, do you? Not sure he's suited for that at 255. The DL is mudding up the pocket, but they are not getting home. Look at the number of plays pressure is forcing the QB to scramble, not many. The oppositing QBs are still getting time to make most of their throws, which makes puts too much pressure on our secondary. Not sure what Sam is counting as a "pressure" but getting "pressure" about 1/3 of the time actually doesn't sound that bad. I mean, you always want more but I'm not sure what the target is.
A lot of it depends on what kind of passes they are throwing. You can blitz eight guys but if the QB throws it right away you might not get "pressure". I don't recall a lot times where the QB stood back and had 7-8 seconds to throw. They seem to be mostly getting the ball out pretty quickly.

Agreed. More importantly, though, there's a wealth of message board meme gold to be mined with his name.Freedom appears to have alot of upside at a sorely underperforming position. I like what I've seen so far.
Pressure wise I really do think our line is doing a better job than we are giving them credit. A lot of times sacks are based a little on luck and the fact that the qb ran right into you. The one thing I'm concerned with and I haven't seen it a single time yet this year, those guys don't get their hands up to deflect passes at all. Especially on the slant routes and TE drags, that is the only way you will affect the play as a d-linemen. Suh, Crick, Pierre Allen, Barry turner, Baker Steinkuhler all guys I can think of off the top of my head that were great at getting their hands up when they knew they wouldn't get to the qb.Not sure what Sam is counting as a "pressure" but getting "pressure" about 1/3 of the time actually doesn't sound that bad. If I could remember how to pronounce and spell his last name, I probably would.Agreed. More importantly, though, there's a wealth of message board meme gold to be mined with his name.Freedom appears to have alot of upside at a sorely underperforming position. I like what I've seen so far.
