Husker Press Conference - 10/12

Really impressed with the way everyone involved in the team has handled this. If nothing else I like the maturity that Riley has brought to this program. I hope it works out and they can turn it around because I can see Riley being a perfect fit at Nebraska.

I agree. With some of the comments I have read on this board, there are a group of fans that are put off by Riley's professional and calm response to adversity. They would rather see him validate all of our frustrations by displaying anger, dismay, or sadness.
While I'm sure he and the players feel all of those things, lashing out won't help keep the ship sailing, and confidence maintained IMO.

(Not meant as a Bo comment, just a general coach demeanor. Lots of coaches on both sides of the coin)

At any point in the full presser did Riley explain why Devine Ozigbo only got 3 carries?

Kind of crazy to consider after the Illinois game Jano and Devine combined for only 6 carries, but Newby and Cross combined for 21.

Or why we pulled Jordan's RS so he could take a knee on kicks. I think the RB situation is beyond bizarre...

excellent take.

Instead of treating our fanaticism as a burden, he is quickly an effective spreading the message that it is an asset.

It's really that simple.

Now, of course though. Continue to lose, and we'll see how he moves along as that weight gets heavier.

He pretty much addressed that in the conference. His quotes:

"We lost our ability to have an effective balance on offense."

"We have to really define what we can do in the passing game and fit it in what we need to do in games and recommitt ourselves to the definition of what we can do. We have to look at personel hard and where we need to get the guys with the ball. When a guy like Westerkamp catches only two balls that isn't good enough. That applies across the board. We have ample weapons, we have to be able to get them the ball effectively to get where we want to be."

The positive is that he seems to have a good grasp on what our problems are (and did touch on the D giving up big plays). If he can make the adjustments to correct those problems he may just end up turning this thing around and become a good hire for the Huskers. Time will tell.

I like how he pretty much put the blame on the coaching and not on the players not making plays (which a lot of coaches do). I'm hoping his attitude can eventually have a positive effect on the team and that they eventually "click".
