Yays and Nays: Huskers have lost control of their backyard

The second long run was also enabled by a blatant holding no call, not saying Dzuris would've gotten to Thorson but he would have altered the run. Plus, I miss Chris Webber, that kid has a nose for the ball and is athletic to make plays.
No doubt. When you are dragging the OL man, arm stretched wide and staring at the ref...... the B1G refs suck this year.

All our RBs have their warts.

Newby is clearly not built like a workhorse. Personally, I think he'd e better suited as a change of pace guy than a feature back, but he's the most complete guy we've got. He's listed at 5'10", 200, and those are probably generous. You're gonna be waiting a long time to see Newby run like Stewart or Tolbert. They're definitely power backs and he's definitely not.

Imani is a power back, but runs like a bull in a china shop. That's valuable, but he has no lateral agility and no semblance of vision.

Ozigbo has looked pretty gold at times, and pretty mediocre at others. But he spends most of his time on the side of the milk carton.

Ditto with Wilson, which is apparently off the field issues.

The coaches aren't ready to trust Stevenson.

We've been spoiled with AA, Rex, and Helu. What you're seeing is what happens when you have very inconsistent, average at best OL play with RBs that aren't going to the NFL. It's finally come home to roost now that there's no eraser at RB to cover up how much our OL needs to improve. I'm hoping it does (we need to recruit our tails off in the trenches), and the young RBs develop into good backs.

THIS YEAR??

I don't want to be this guy, but they've bee flaming garbage all season, and really ever since we came to the Big 10. Really disappointed they continue to be this poor.

I don't think running Newby up the middle, is much of a run game.

GBR!!!
Ditto. Newby goes down if a defender merely looks at him. In fact, 8 games in, I'm still looking for a skill player, whether RB or WR or TE or QB, that can break a tackle. I mean, sheesh, they all go down upon the least contact, it's ridiculous. Maybe only Jano has the ability to break a would-be tackle it seems.

Well your running game won't do jack squat when your O line sucks, you don't commit to succeeding at the run, and the scheme is simpler than a 2nd grade level pop warner team. Nobody should be shocked that we can't run the ball. It's apparent we don't want to.
