What Did We Learn: Iowa Edition

This is about the 4th & 1 play call. As a Husker fan, it is hard to hear our OC say he is spooked to run the ball. TA started the game 2 of 7 with 2 INT. That means, he successfully threw the ball just as much to Iowa as he did Nebraska, but after that, Langsdorf called 10 more pass plays to just 3 runs to finish the first half. With a start like that, why would he not be spooked by the pass?
Before anyone else can say it, I saw the open TE on that play, same as everyone else, so the play call itself was not the problem.

Langsdorf's offense is schemed well to get WR open. However, TA is not the QB for how the offense was called yesterday. The problem this season has always been fit. TA is a natural runner and has great arm strength. However, arm strength is meaningless when he struggles to recognize coverages and does not prioritize ball security. Actually, at times, he would rather throw a Hail Mary, damn the consequences, than look for a check down, tuck it and pick up a few yards, or simply throw it away. If the coaches are going to put him out there, which I don't blame them because he is a true competitor and playmaker, they need to look at how they are going to run the offense. Calling 40+ pass plays gives TA too many opportunities to make a poor decision. One answer is an easy one: run the ball more. This is some what a tired mantra, but I say it after looking at the results of the season and thinking about what type of offense would work with the talent currently at Nebraska. Langsdorf has already shown a great ability to design companion run-pass plays. He uses a two-back set to feature the fly sweep, QB counter (where the QB is the second RB), FB trap, inside zone with the RB, and finally several passing variants.
No firing or replacing of players is necessary. Success can come with this staff and this roster, if the coaches make the prompter adjustments.

I don't think we learned anything. What we knew was reinforced. When MR was hired many predicted this season. MR and his staff are sorry and Nebraska will continue to be sorry as long as they are here.

TA does not go through progressions...he locks in on one WR and usually the one running the deepest route his cannon arm is his curse and the fact he just doesn't make good decisions but neither do his present or previous coaches...He reflects them perfectly.

I have been pretty down on Banker this year, but I agree that the D played well enough for us to win against Iowa. The D has shown improvement over the last few games.

I would say the D improved over the last 2 games. The D was a dumpster fire against Purdue, and gave up 38 points and a lot of yards to Michigan State. Overall, the D was very disappointing for most of the year.

From my Iowa friends at the game, Tommy Arm So Strong, cannot read a line backer to save his life, the fade? pass in the 4th cost us the game and dumbest thing they had seen in a while. That numerous Hawkeyes thanked me in the embassy suites for firing bo (i went with like 5 other guys/gals from Iowa that had more friends in the hawkeye tail-gate ball room most of which stayed there), so we would suck for 3 years and they could have a chance of winning our division next three years. Imagine that, me in husker gear being forced to defend mike riley... I dont crap on MR when talking to other team's fans, only when talking to rational husker fans or I am behind a computer screen warm and safe in my house.
I however still teased them about the Creigton v. Iowa annual game that I went to the first and only one in Des Moines Second year we had the McDermoutt boys and we beat Iowa by 35 and Iowa cancelled the annual game after that! HA!

Thing is, even with how sh**ty TA was playing, we still had chances to win that thing. The Fade was the killer, though. Our D played a respectable game, I give them kudos.
