The rationalization of the media are incredible. They really seem to like Mike. Good for them.

Here's reality: this class is a solid one and very much in line with what NU will recruit more often than not based on our recruiting realities.

Riley and his staff had a roster full of classes like this one and went 6-7, with some awful losses and a great win.

It's up to Riley to show he can win more with this level of talent. If he can't, then he should go. Because top 15 recruiting classes aren't forthcoming, unless there's another rush of local talent during the next 4 years.

I think it's reasonable to hold Riley and staff accountable.... starting with this year.

Almost everyone grants new staffs a pass on the first year of transition; not an excuse, but a reality.

By their own admission, last year they literally knew more about the kids they were recruiting than the Bo holdovers already on campus, since that was their focus immediately upon arrival.

I happen to believe this class is better already then the majority of Bo's classes because this edition seems more weighted to needs-specific.

Pass me the kool aid, but I'm guessing this class will pave the way for top 15-20 classes starting next year.

Letting alone there's no real logical or factual basis for that sort of conclusion, who cares?

agree, we wiffed badly on defense, no top notch RB either.....this is a class that did not fill all the needs and only 4 four star recruits, even Frost took in two...

The next few years are, at worst, in the 7-9 win area. There is plenty of room for optimism and rational belief that we can or will do better than that, however.

Look. Bo Pelini, for all of his faults and shortcomings as a head coach, which were aplenty, was extremely good or lucky at winning close games. He went something like 19-2 in games decided by a touchdown or less. That's a statistical anomaly. If we're not going to attribute that to great coaching or deserving, then we shouldn't attribute Riley getting snakebit in 6 games on the final play towards BAD coaching.

BYU was a good team. Northwestern was a good team. Wisconsin was a good team. Iowa was a really good team. Miami was a pretty decent team. Illinois and Purdue weren't, but let's not act like it's unique to Mike Riley to lose games against inferior competition. 6 plays go our way, and we're 12-2. Further, we ended the season playing quality, improved football. When's the last time a Bo Pelini team was better in January than it was in September?

Being a long time removed from any great national relevance, being an underwhelming hire, having a very underwhelming season, and having to recruit to Nebraska and managing a top 25 class, even with losing out on some good prospects at the end, is an accomplishment. Sorry that it's not a #1 class, but it's still something wholly positive. If we win a few more games next year, which is not at all an unreasonable thing to expect, turn down a bit of the noise with uncertainty and criticism, the future looks as promising as it has since ~2010.

2010 was the last time I truly felt like we were back to being among the top of the landscape. We had the team, just lacked the staff. You give me 2009 Defense and 2010 Offense and 2016 Staff and hello hardware, but I digress...

I really wish we coulda landed a couple more guys on this class to drive the ranking up a bit and yeah the lack of a DT is worrisome. But overall, nobody here has anything legitimate to b!^@h about now that the 2016 class is signed up, with no drama mind you. We have a legit shot at an even better class next year. Optimism should be on the upswing. GBR

No hypocrisy, friend. Bo Pelini had only one win to his name as (temporary) Head Coach when he took the job. I gave him 7 years and a bunch of hope to see what he could do at Nebraska.
