***Practice report****

Eric the Red

Team HuskerBoard
Was at the coaches clinic and practice and thought I'd throw out some notes.

***It still amazes the hell out of me how many reps they go though in one 2.5 hour practice.

*Keller is far and away the number 1 QB.....Ganz is okay for emeergncies and Davis, to put it nicely, just isn't D1 material..I'll leave it at that..............Witt surprised me, he has the tools, I think he'll have the patience to wait his turn, I think we may get three solid staring years out of him. He should and needs to redshirt this year, unless Ganz and Keller go down. I really like the future with Witt.

* Lucky looks just fine. Looks tougher, smoother and looser. Not as stiff, I hope and think this will be his year to get 15 carries and 5 catches a game..serving up over 1500 total yards. Glenn is a nice back to have, but isn't as fast as Lucky, plus he's still limping......The young guys as usual have a long ways to go and will most likely see very little time, only in backup or emergency times.

*DB's look pretty good, but this early in the season, defense should always look better than the offense. Time is needed for the offense to get on track

*I had to leave a special thread just for Thenarse. Every single coach I talked to said the same thing...Thenarse is going to be special......everyhting this guy has said in the papers about himself running through a wall to get the job done is true. AN ANIMAL!!!!!!!!!!

**Mendoza hurt himself, don't know the extent....he'll need time, he's lost.

*I was annoyed with this and still am, but Culbert needs to be on defense. One of the few times I am in disagreement w/Callahan.

*Henry at WR is a Purify clone.....I think we have something with him for next year. Wont' see the field because of Purify.....but damn great recruiting by the coaches to the potential.

*****I really like the Dline, we lose alot in Moore and Carricker but I really think were going to be better up the gut than last year....Suh will be all league. .........Potter is pu&&y, not sure how else to put it, but he isn't really good right now. He will be pasted up by future recruits and Pierre Allen, who by the way is still learning. But because NU's DB's are better will make this group much better.

*LB's are solid, but that's all. The "Octavian aura" is gone. He's not that good anymore, ormaybe was never that good. He makes some great, 'get up and shout' plays, but then hass the biggest brain fart ever. Coz loves to hammer him every chance he gets. Coz was in his face every other play. Dillard needs to be on the field. Don't know how, but McWeon better not stop putting forth effort. DIllard is big, strong and very active. Still not sure how Ruud plays. It doesn't look like he lifted a single wieght yet. :hmmph

I'll put up more later

Great Report. Lots of interesting tidbits. Ruud has always made me question how he can be an impact player. Glad im not the only one who wonders about him.

I'm hate saying complete negative things about players because atheltically they are way better than me, but the guy avoids contact. HE'S A LB AVOIDING CONTACT

What did the TEs look like? Also how did some of the other young WRs we have look like Holt or Brooks. Finally just curious what you thought of Asante, and in regards of your thoughts on Thenarse do both these guys need to be on the field rather than competing for the same spot?

Im not knocking on him athletically, I am just saying that it doesn't seem like a person like that should be able to play that well (when he is playing well). And I agree wholeheartedly about the contact. Maybe thats why he is taking over Stew's role of coverage more this year. Put McKeon and Dillard in there to blast through the line.

Anyone know how the rest of our LB core is shaping up?

i am not surprised that Glenn is still hurting, best thing for him is to take the rest of the spring off and try to get his damn foot healed. i said earlier, it is not uncommon for this type of injury to take a year or more to completely heal, he is doing nothing but aggravating it and i am surprised the staff is being so stupid and letting him practice, hence this is obviously why Culbert is going to stay in the backfield to spell Lucky, at least until we see if Castille can get in the mix. The Potter report is not surprising and if Otavien is mindless, then line backing play will be barely above average. Witt sounds like a future bright spot and Ganz will just be "clip-board toting Ganz". It's early and sounds like there is a helluva lot of work to do.

TE's were nothing special, considering McNeil isn't participating this spring.

*Brooks and Holt looked decent. One thing to point out abou the WR's WAT TOO MANY DROPPED PASSES

Man that is something we can't have happen again this year.

With the numbers of WRs on the roster, I would guess if you cant hold on, you are riding the bench. We have way too many recievers to have someone with butter fingers out there.

One thing that may or may not be affecting it, there may well be a velocity difference between Taylor and Keller, which for some of the WRs may take getting used to. But by the time the season starts, there had better not be any drops.

We had a QB in high school that threw the damn ball so hard he broke one of my fingers!!! Made me nervous for a while afterwards.
