This could be a thread on of its own but I would be interested in hearing people's thoughts on the offense's 2nd quarter blues this year. I think Langsdorf struggles on what to call after the initial script is complete and the defense has shown what they are going to do. Then they are able to regroup during halftime and do well in the 2nd half.Wow this stat is tellingRemind me again which quarter we're dominating and which quarter we can't even outscore Purdue.....

Pretty much sums up what I've been saying for quite awhile. Running the ball wins games. Here you go - not sure why they don't have yards
In the 2nd Quarter:
#104 in scoring (5.3 ppg)
#64 in Time of Possession (49.13%)
In the 4th Quarter:
#2 in scoring (14.0)
#2 in TOP (66.52%)
I don't know if it's as easy as saying "NU needs to run the ball as much as they do in the 4th quarter." There are so many circumstances that leads NU to run the ball as much as they do in the 4th quarter. Yes, Langsdorf could try to run the ball "more" in the 2nd quarter, but I don't think the 4th quarter game plan is the answer to all of NU's problems.I wish they played the entire game like they do the fourth quarter
Conditioning certainly helps, but also I would think that NU would have deeper and more talented rosters than every other team (Oregon may be an exception) that they have played so far. At some point that deeper roster and more talent is going to take control of the game physically. You'd have to think that conditioning has something to do with this. It would explain why our running game in particular is more effective in the fourth quarter.:![]()
I agree. Maybe I wasnt clear. But the point i'm making is could it be simply only that? Cuz i'm not seeing anything major in terms of schematical adjustments. Basically, what it's amounting to is, are we really THAT much better conditioned? You'd have to think that conditioning has something to do with this. It would explain why our running game in particular is more effective in the fourth quarter.:![]()
That might have something to do with it. But if it was simply a matter of having more talent wouldn't we do better in quarters 1 through 3 as well?Conditioning certainly helps, but also I would think that NU would have deeper and more talented rosters than every other team (Oregon may be an exception) that they have played so far. I think that stat we have run the ball basically twice as much in the fourth as we have in the second is a reason. We need more successful first down runs in the second quarter which will allow us to do alot more on offenseThat might have something to do with it.
