Anyone in Lincoln ever seen those jackwagons that sell sh#t like Disney Books or Lanterns out of a car? Yeah I applied for that gig without knowing what it was and got to spend a day with them doing that. Guys in charge dress suave but you can tell the whole thing is a giant load of crap. Got offered the job, accepted it. Realized screw this and quit before day 1.

In college I worked for the owner of an Ice Cream shop. I got the job because a buddy of mine was the shift manager or some other bs, I can't remember. I came in early on certain days because most that worked there were high school kids not allowed in the freezer and that dropped off deliveries.

My buddy was a good looking guy and could do no wrong, he would stand in the blind spot of the camera's in the place and make out with another girl that worked there (intentionally) while I was left to fend for myself with the customers. Meanwhile the owner would spend hours watching the camera tapes, take notes and chew me out for every time I leaned or stopped working or did anything wrong.

She was a penny pincer to the point where I'm almost 100% sure health code violations were broken. We had little tasting spoons for different kinds of ice cream for people to try before they invested in an entire scoop. She would actually have us re-collect those, rewash and reuse them.

Also when we laid out all the blenders and ice cream scoops and stuff at the end of the night to dry we would re-use the same paper towels every night to save money. If you used "Fresh" paper towels you'd better have a good reason. And then in the morning roll up and carefully put the paper towels back. God forbid you ripped one....

One time we thought we were out of milk so I got sent to get more while she was out and when she came apparently we still had some. I got ripped up one side and down another. I wish she would have just fired me on the spot.

I also got yelled at for giving customers both too much and too little ice cream.

Another time I got yelled at when she sent me herself to get more banana's for banana splits, I got ripped for buying the "expensive" kind.

Another thing we did (only when she was physically there) was she had us charge people 25 cents per dixie cup of water. I know it was her business but it sucked having to look people in eye and tell them that.

The way I got out of it was summer eventually ended, although I said I had to go back to school a lot earlier than I really did.

All that for 4.25 an hour.

Then there were other times when he seem comatose, and would actually fall asleep in meetings. He fell asleep for about two minutes once while interviewing a candidate for an opening in the dept. (I knew the guy interviewing and he told me about it later. lol) Based on his behavior some people at the company suspected he was taking some sort of psyche meds.

His true colors were revealed when he interviewed three candidates for an open secretarial position. Candidate #1: A fifty-something woman with 20 years of experience in our industry. She seem very sharp, and likable. I wanted him to hire her. The boss felt she was too old. Candidate #2: A thirty-something black woman with nine years of secretarial experience in our industry. I knew she could do the job, and wanted to hire her after the boss passed on #1. The boss said "she doesn't have the right look." I'm not sure exactly what that means, but he actually said that. Candidate #3: A very attractive, single young red-head. She had no secretarial experience at all. Had never worked in our industry. The boss hired her. Apparently she had the "right look." (btw, After some months of training the red-head actually did turn out to be quite good. So there's that.)

Over 10 years ago, I got a temp job through Accountemps where I was supposed to help out the business office of a candle-making company (think Yankee Candle wanna-be). The guy running the business office was a total douche, who thought he was hot S. The problem with the temp job was that they office manager was terrible at giving me actual work to do. He would also get pissed at me when I had him approve my time card that I would send to Accountemps. After a couple weeks of me not doing a whole lot, he came to my office and basically fired me. He said I was the laziest worker he's ever had. I called Accountemps after that and they said the business manager told them I stole a bunch of candles while I was there, too. I changed my fantasy baseball team for that summer to Lazy Candle Stealer.

I parted ways with that company a couple months after she was hired. But he never yelled at her during that two months. (btw, She was a secretary (admin assistant) in the dept, but did not work directly for him. He had a different secretary.)
