OWH: Riley Faces Difficult Choices with Husker Offense

Do people forget that TM completed like 63% of his passes...Yet NU still couldn't win the conference. What magical freaking # do the PP lovers want? I mean, you are not getting much higher than 70%...
It's the 2004/2005 mindset all over again.
"Oh, just you wait until Coach Callahan gets his guys in here, then the offense will be humming."

It's fools gold.

Thank You
I find it interesting that those who are most ardent in their support of this staff also look back fondly on the 2004 to 2007 seasons. I'm not really sure that they are actually Husker fans.
I'd prefer taking advice from our last great coach. Have a power-run based offense, a fast, a$$ kicking attitude defense, with nasty special teams to boot.
Go back to what got us to where we were historically. Just gotta get a staff with that mindset.
I hope that man is Scott Frost. Hopefully he is ready in a couple of years.

It is a damn good thing that there was no message boards during the late 70's and early 80's. Some of you idiots would have run TO out of town. It was bad enough that the papers tried to do it.

As I have stated on here over and over. If your QB only hits 50% of his passes, they don't have to respect the pass. Thus, they stack the box and put a ton of heat on the run game and then can pin their ears back and go after the QB. You can stop that by doing slip screens or hitting the RB out of the back field, neither of which TA could accomplish. Lee and POB should be a huge improvement in this category. As for QB run game, seriously? TA was more concerned about being able to be the hero by throwing the ball. Does anybody know what his average yards per rush were? How many times did he pass up 10-20 yard runs to throw an incomplete pass 40 yards down field to a WR that was double covered. Lee and POB have enough wheels to get yards on the ground, but will only do it if they have too.

I would much rather have a passing QB that can run the ball versus a running QB that passes the ball. There is a HUGE difference in their mind set.

As for getting Chip Kelly in here, you guys would run him out of town after the first season because he coach football the Nebraska way.

Lee won't have over 90 yards rushing for the season

It's pretty simple. Either this staffs scheme will work or it won't. Changing it now would be disastorous.

I totally agree… You can't have them change it they need to do what they feel is best and what they know and understand. Now with that said if you could go get Chip Kelly you do that in a heartbeat. I'll help Mike Riley pack.

Less then 12 hours ago you stated (regarding Lee) "And with one that will never run for positive yards in a game"

At this rate, you will be promoting him for the Heisman as a running QB by Friday!!!

Right… So if he never runs for positive yards in a game he won't have over 90 yards rushing for the season. Which part was the hard part?

Does it matter? I'm totally fine with Lee rushing for negative yards if we score more points and win more games.

I'm totally fine with not running one single offense of play all season if it means an undefeated season.

Tom Osborne didn't start out 14 and 11 with some of the most embarrassing losses in school history including a losing season.
People need to quit insulting Osborne and stop that comparison yesterday.

The same comparisons were made between TO and Bo. And TO and Callahan. And TO and Frank.

ok except it is super realistic to win a national championship with a QB who has negative rush yards and completely unrealistic to go undefeated without running an offensive play

At least the comparisons to Bo and Frank made sense, from a wins perspective.

And the comparisons to Riley make sense if you look at them from a personality and process point of view.

Any comparison makes sense to the person making it.
