Final AP Poll

I would love to see a poll of what others thing are there too 25. I'd say a list of the AP's top 40 to start the list. I'm willing to bet that everyone has trouble with the 11-25 range. Personally NU is on the outside looking in as Id have Wisc and Iowa above us.

How do two teams in the CFP get leapfrogged? I know Washington and Ohio St lost, but I think you should rank 1-4 separate from the rest of the field at the end of the year.

You're lying to yourself if you think every one of those teams "deserves" to be in the Top 25 but, using the same metrics, Nebraska absolutely doesn't. Especially since, being the third team in "others receiving votes" we're basically ranked 28th.

Florida, at 9-4, ranked 14th. LSU 13th at 8-4. Virginia Tech at 10-4, ranked 16th. Colorado at 9-4 ranked 17th. Every team 20-25 has four losses with the exception of SDSU at 11-3.

I understand the concern here. But where I fail to make the connection is when I try to identify a team in that top 25 that we would have competed with. I come up with possibly SDSU and Wisconsin, after that I'm getting bubkus. Possibly a couple others in the first half of the season but I did say "competed". Actually winning makes it even tougher.

I don't think Nebraska deserves to be ranked. But, I don't believe they are really different than some of the lower ranked teams.

How does Ohio State end up ranked ahead of Penn State?

How does Western Michigan with one one-score loss end up 15th?

I remember when our AP ranking streak of 33 years ended in 2002. It sure was a bummer. Before that season I couldn't remember a season when we weren't ranked. Probably nobody here could.

Prior to 2002 Nebraska had only experienced winning seasons while I've been alive. And then in 2004 NU had their first losing season since before I was born. I remember thinking, all streaks come to an end at some point, and then I went on with my life.

I'm guessing the AP really doesn't give a flying rip about the playoffs. In fact, I would guess they would wish it would completely go away and go back to polls picking the NC.

Should they stop doing a Top 25? Only have a Top 10?

Sure. I wouldn't lose any sleep. Anything past the top ten is extremely subjective, and even six to ten can be tricky.

I agree with that, and I don't really care too much if we're ranked 18th or 28th. Anything past the top ten likely means no conference championship, probably not even a division championship, and at that point you're mostly passing out participation ribbons.
