Bob Diaco - New Defensive Coordinator

I don't love the bend/don't break ideology. I want to be the team that other teams don't like playing because of the defense.

I don't think he's going to be much more than an average DC. Maybe it's just me but this guy and this situation reminds me of Hank Hughes before he was hired...and I'm not talking about personality or anything like that, just as a coach and people's opinions of him

Co worker is a big Notre Dame fan, he says Diaco would be a good hire.
That seems to be the general consensus of most people outside of this board.
I think people's concern comes from his track record... Had one great year at ND, and that defense was ridiculously talented.... Bo did some pretty remarkable things with great talent too. That 2009 defense might of been the best I've ever seen.

I wouldn't hate the hire, but I would be somewhat skeptical.

Something about him just doesn't feel right to me. Not sure exactly what it is. Lack of success, weird eccentric personality, no established recruiting chops, too perfect of a face, etc.

I was gonna ask, is it because he's better looking then you?

There are quite a few articles floating around from his time at Notre Dame about his recruiting. Here are two for you:

But when you trace the arc of Notre Dame's sudden and surprising emergence, which begins and ends with one of the most dominant defenses in the country, Diaco's imprint is undeniable. It has been made in recruiting, where he's had a strong hand in the Irish's sudden talent influx on defense. He

secured five-star linebacker Ishaq Williams' commitment with a 4:30 a.m. visit to his Brooklyn home

This may be a first, but I agree with you LOMS. I don't get the warm and fuzzy feeling from him. I am pretty good at reading people, and he seems a little too much into himself.

Being "into yourself" equates to a lack of success?

It's also worth noting that, the guys he would have recruited at Notre Dame in 2010 and 2011 would have had their maximum impact in 2014 and 2015, and in those 2 seasons, ND ranked 85th and 95th in scoring defense.

You realize he wasn't their coach then right?
