Riley Announces Spring Game Format

Traditionally, as I recall, the game was usually the 1st and 4th strings vs 2nds and 3rds in a mostly regular game type format (through the Devaney/Osborne/Solich years. I only recall seeing half a dozen of the "games" (I didn't feel those practice like things were fairly called a game) of those since the Solich years. Osborne and maybe Frank both sometimes used limited tackling on some plays and put green jerseys on QBs sometimes though I don't recall that was even the case sometimes.

I hope they play something close to a game type situation and let the kids, particularly the backups play some semi real football. You just can't practice 'touch' football and then suddenly become a physical hard nosed and agressive football team in real games. Serious hitting and full blown full speed blocking, tackling, play operating, etc are critical to a team preparing to play at a high level. We can't afford to spend the first several games getting into full blown game ready state. I realize injuries are a true concern but we've seen many go down in non contact drills etc and in practice settings as well. We have 150 players suited up and the reason is we need to play hard to win as our competition will not be playing soft all the time so we can't. Football is a game of rough and tough collisions and not a 'contact' sport such as basketball might be called.

uhhhh we've never had a spring game where they don't tackle to the ground (minus qb hitting) and they've gone full contact multiple times this spring.

I prefer #1 defense and #2 offense on one team, and #2 defense and #1 offense on the other team. That way #1 offense can play against #1 defense and #2 offense can play against #2 defense.

I like this format more than some stupid scoring format for offense and defense. Just let em play
Yup, I hated that format.
I prefer any format where the top units face off against each other. I dislike the mixed/draft format because we don't see the depth chart or the top units against each, so I'd prefer the offense vs defense like last year as compared to this year's format. But my top choice would be the old 1's and 4's vs 2's and 3's where the #1 offense vs #1 defense are opposite each other and face-off against each other.
This guy gets it too.

Mav >>>>>> Obama in opinions about the Husker spring game format. So, you know, the important stuff.
