It would appear we are headed in the right direction but we won't know till the dust settles next November. There is a lot of football to be played and the ball can bounce funny. All said I am positive and hopeful next year is competitive and we win a bunch of games and upset a really good team. Maybe 2 or 3!

Exactly. Until we start winning games against the big boys - Wisc, Ohio St and Mich - there will be little patience.

Another season with the "dreaded" 9 wins would actually be really good considering the momentum we have with recruiting. We have those players, but they're young now. We need another decent season or 2 and then get it done. We'll all take getting it done earlier than that but I think it is meaningful just having a decent season this year.

Now if this were year 6 I would be saying something much different.

Riley is recruiting top rated players and getting lots of visits. That is not debatable. Now, we need to land a 4 star average plus class this time and we will be on the rise. To do that, we need to win 9 games in the regular season and get over that threshold into the 10 or 11 wins and finish in the top 15 with a decent bowl win. We need to be in the discussion in November when the talking heads are blabbing about the top twenty. We need to be 'in the hunt' for Big Ten championship game in the final week of the season. We have to prove the naysayers wrong who are forecasting another losing season. That would be a near lethal blow to all the positive perception and vibes and might spell doom for Riley as well.

Why all the doom and gloom 84? It's about a vision and selling that vision that's got HCMR and Huskers where they're at today. If all you indicate would have to come true before the momentum began would there even be recruiting momentum? The chicken or the egg is a great debate, no matter what happened it took one to develop the other. What happens next isn't for the babbling pundits, wins or B10 placement. It's all about selling the vision.

Dabo Swinney took over Clemson at the same time that Bo Pelini took over Nebraska. Clemson just in the past few years has taken that step into the "elite" tier.

Give Riley time. All of the positive signs are there when you're talking about program development and Eichorst seems to be providing every resource imaginable for Riley to succeed here. We have a top 10 recruiting class currently, were holding assistant coaches responsible for their actions and dismissing them when they aren't performing to the standard level necessary, and we are spending big boy money on their replacements. On top of that, our social media presence is amongst the top in the country and almost most importantly, Riley has completely changed the culture in the locker room and surrounding Nebraska football. Nebraska football is now "cool" again nationally. That has to mean something (and in my opinion- it means a lot).

I really think we have the potential to surprise a lot of people this year. Tanner Lee really looks like a big boy quarterback back there. That throw to JD Speilman in the end zone from 30 yards out was incredible. I'm really optimistic about the future of Nebraska football as it sits right now and have a hard time seeing how anyone could analyze what is going on with the program and come out with negative thoughts.

Exactly. Expecting these coaches to perform exactly as other coaches have in different situations is ridiculous in the extreme.

Heck, I remember someone crying about us not being able to replace an entire defensive line with underclassmen just because Clemson had done it. Well f#*k, we aren't Clemson now are we? And we certainly aren't the '90's Huskers anymore either.
