Eric Crouch Update

Six years after winning the Heisman Trophy, Eric Crouch is still looking forward to his best football.

The former Nebraska quarterback is entering his second season in the Canadian Football League and he said he’s found contentment with the Toronto Argonauts.

“I’m trying to win that starting spot,” Crouch said Tuesday in Omaha, Neb. “I’m not there to sit on the bench and hope we win. I would like to be the quarterback that helps win games and helps win a Grey Cup this year.”

Crouch appeared in three games last year before a shoulder injury ended his season. He isamong five quarterbacks on the preseason roster.

Toronto offensive coordinator Steve Buratto said incumbent Damon Allen will go into camp No. 1, but must prove he can play at 43 years old, and that Crouch has a chance.

“The things we like to do most are the things that require an athletic kind of quarterback,” Buratto said. “He fits that mold.”

Though Buratto’s system requires passing, it features many of the tenets of the triple-option offense Crouch ran at Nebraska under Frank Solich.

“His background isn’t in dropping straight back and throwing,” Buratto said. “When we’re at our best, our quarterback isn’t always dropping straight back and throwing. We want him to make defenses worry about him.”

Time for him to hang it up....unless he tries (or gets the opportunity again) to play another position.

He's 4th on the depth chart.

1 - Michael Bishop

2 - Mike McMahon

3 - Damon Allen

4 - Eric Crouch

yep I agree he needs to hang it up and start his broadcasting career. isn't that what he plans on doing after football?

Eric Crouch washed my windows this morning on the corner of 114th and Dodge. He started to wash them at least, then he retired.

Funny...but ice cold man! ;)

I still follow Eric and love what he did for us. Hope he continues to play and work his way up...and if not and it doesn't work out, I'm sure he'll be successful doing something else.

Eric is a great guy, if he wants to keep playing then he can, the way Canadian football the depth chart changes a lot, plus last he got in a little for special situations at least before he got hurt.

I think he should definitely stick it out this year and see what happens. I still think he has a chance in the CFL. He has an ungodly amount of athletic ability and who knows, maybe they will need him at a different position.

That's the problem he is so gifted athletically, but he threw it away with being hard headed and only wanting to play QB. If he would have just tried the WR position out who knows where he would be now!!!!

He'd be a very productive player for the rams right now IMO if he would have stayed at WR with them.

I agree with you...............he had the speed and intangibles that he could have played just about any position!!!! WR, DB, etc. It wouldn't have mattered. It's sad to see him go down the tubes. :hmmph

I can see where he is coming from though, ex. Scott Frost
You see where Crouch is coming from only wanting to play QB in the NFL and not accepting another position...and you reference Scott Frost? Try again....Frost at least had a 6-year NFL career AT SAFETY. He never tried to stick it out at QB. He took the opportunity that was given to him.
