No.  Dabo's first true year was 2009. Interm in 2008........Riley year 3 compared to Dabo's year 3.  HC vs HC... 

I wil give you that Dabo was on staff at Clemson since 2003.   

Here is point back to what you speak of identity.  Dabo and his "All-in"...

He has surrounded himself with like-minded assistants who share his philosophy and enthusiasm, and the results have been nothing short of impressive.

Five consecutive seasons with 10 or more victories.

Bowl victories against Oklahoma, Ohio State and LSU the last three years.

Twelve wins against Top 25 teams over the last five seasons, including eight against Top 10 opponents.

Life is good.

Do I follow Clemson?  Yep.  2nd fave team.  Followed for about 20 years.  Followed NU for about 15-20 before that.....Die Hard Husker...Pulled for NU in 81 (Jan 82) against Clemson...Pulled for NU in 2008 (actually Jan 09)against Clemson....

Dabo has done what can be done here again.  Develop an identity.  Make NU a "unique" experience.  Get staff that shares the vision.....  To read more about their identity read Bookie's comments about his unofficial visit there with some buddies from IMG....

I really have no idea what the culture is at NU.  It appears to lack accountability.  It appears to lack physicality.  It appears to lack leadership.  Not every guy is a get in your face, I get that.  Who is our get in your face guy.  The guy who is on the sidelines hyping the team up.  Getting them ready on D for the next series?  I don't see it....We have to many "let my play to the talking" guys....We lost to NIU and got stomped by Wisky....I don't think a lot of guys are fluent in that language because if they are it conveys we are not that good...

You get NU back to accountability.  To the staff, the team, the university and the fans.....A physical, disciplined mindset.  Go to class, don't smoke weed, don't get in trouble (not arguing the merits of weed, for today its illegal)....I culture of perfection, no stupid penalties.  A culture of winning....

Bookie appears to love it here.  I get that.  My comments were aimed more at Clemson's culture and what they have.  Used Bookie as a non-biased statement.

At the end of the day, Bama, OSU, Wisky, Clemson, OU etc have established a culture whose capstone is winning....Somewhere NU has lost that IMHO.

Bill Callahan took Nebraska to a conference championship game in year 3, and did at least manage to beat a MAC team in his final season. Riley? Uhh...

There has to be some discussion of rallying and supporting these coaches and players. I know we all want glory and eventual championships. Trust me, I want it so bad. I do not see this negativity helping, a matter of fact, I see it making it worse. Calling for heads and bringing up new coaches is tough to deal with. Lets just be better than that.

If you were to ask me and this plagues so many programs, not just us, Nebraska's biggest problem is to get kids to play for, love, and cherish the University. When I went to the opener, I was so disappointed at the players during the tunnel walk. There is no enthusiasm to play or embrace that setting. This is a cultural problem all over the U.S.. Coaches can only do so much and it is hard to diagnose during the recruiting process. Wisconsin for example, takes players who can play but most importantly, buy into playing for Wisconsin, not the NFL. Wisconsin goes through a coaching carousel every two years but the culture remains the same.  Paul Chryst is not a genius. He just runs plays for guys who want to play and win for Wisconsin. Nebraska takes higher quality athletes yearly but treats them like they already have arrived, thus creating a mentally weak and toxic culture. Nebraska players are entitled because everything about Nebraska is big time.  Bo's issue was that he was bigger than the program to his players. So much so that his players literally took on his demeanor. The only exception in his tenure were that for two years he had such elite talent on one side, it bought him time until it would reveal itself. Suh despite everything pelini meant to him, played for Nebraska and it became infectious with the guys next to him. I mention Bo here not to revisit the past but to provide an example of how something becomes bigger than the Uni and the negative implications it has.

I am in the solutions business and I think Nebraska has to change how it sells itself and the mission it wants to accomplish. Target your competitors and say, we want to beat them. Nebraska has too much pride to admit that but they need to come to grips with saying, we need to beat Wisc and Iowa every year in order for it to be successful because that will put them in Indy. Not only that, but they have to be particular with what kind of athlete they recruit. Please, if you listen to Sharp and Benning, do not think that I stole this sentiment from them, because I have been saying this for years. Nebraska needs game changers yes, but they also need guys who will sell out and hold others accountable. They need alphas, cut stoppers, who only live to win. I think this staff knows that and I believe they may have found those guys in this class. 

People want an identity? Identity is not a scheme or style but a mentality. Hence why, this issue plagues multiple regimes and a plethora of players. 

I think they need two epic line units, who powerlift in their sleep, a couple I  backs from Omaha, Sprinkle in some Makovicka's, Schlesingers, Connealys, Ganguishes, Steinkuhlers (what do they have in common?), some real fast guys who are tough from Florida, California, or New Jersey and one very disciplined coach, straight up and down, who believes in truth, accountability, and meeting your goals and who never hangs his head.  I am in the no bullsh$t business.

Bo, Frank, Bohl, Watson, etc... there are guys who had some really good to decent success who have coached here, but suffered from the same issues at Nebraska. What is more nonsense is you saying Frost should have had the job three years ago. You have to be out of your mind.

I expect this thread to be a good one where people look at this from a big picture stand point since the issues beg the observer to look that way. I know there are tons of people who are sick of the fire coach speak. There are also others who do not understand the logic of firing Riley and advocating bringing in a inexperienced HC just because he played here. All I ask, is that you refer back to the overall message of my post and quit saying the same thing people have been saying. Its low hanging fruit and does not solve anything in the current state.

Not true, Winning is a by-product of culture. If winning is a culture than Nebraska would have 10 national championships and Solich would still be coaching here. Everything you said, indicates that you're missing the point.

What exactly IS your point?  That we should stop ragging on the coaches and players even though the result on the field is horrible?  

FWIW I agree about not ragging on the players.  They are just kids and aren't being paid to be take fan disparagement.  I personally try not to badmouth any player because a) if they are playing football at Nebraska they have already accomplished far more athletically than I ever have or will  b) they are just kids and still developing their sense of self worth, it won't help them to have people on here putting them down.

As far as the coaches go, sorry but they get paid BIG money to perform and to be in a fishbowl and I have very little sympathy for them if they don't like us nitpicking their screw ups.

Riley's not out of a job YET, but the writing is on the wall in letters a spear's length deep (to paraphase CS Lewis) that his time is short.  I don't dislike the man, he seems like a nice guy, but I don't want him coaching Nebraska football any longer than absolutely necessary either.  Despite the pollyannas that occaissionaly have popped up here acting like he will not only finish this year but also get next year, I am 100% certain he will not be here next year.  You don't fire the AD at Nebraska because you are happy or content with the football coach.  The ONLY reasons they haven't fired Riley yet have to do with timing and when it makes the most sense to publicly let him go.  He knows it too, you can see it in his face on the sidelines.  He has probably already been told he is out at the end of the season.

So us going easy on him won't help anything.  He's already gone and everyone with a brain knows it.

All of those people are having similar success to what they had here.  Bohl and Bo have had greater success at a lower level

Absolutely but whats scratches my head is how each staff finds itself in almost the exact same predicament and the issues appear to be the same. How does that happen with so many different coaches and players? I am trying to lead people to a greater understanding that this is something unique to us. Nebraska has a Nebraska issue right now. If Riley is fired, his replacement is going to have a HARD time shaking off this stink on the program. My only advocation for Riley is that he is doing some things better than the last staff and he's only had two and a half years. Trust me, I want to win. Nebraska has been perceived as a toxic place for years and all it has done is prove that it is. We as fans can do better on how we approach such realizations. It would be a lot worse for the program in the long (and short) run to keep Riley. It would be a lot better for the program to bring in someone like Frost (who HAS proven himself as a coach, NOT just a guy who played here). We need to do whatever we can to get him.

I understand your point but the new internet culture is what it is.

Will the NCAA suddenly institute a coaches salary cap and 3 round draft for any player below the Stanford SAT minimum?

Not bloody likely.

But still,the time to get all retrospective was before they hired these guys.

I’d be willing to get as retrospective as you want with Frost, Bohl, or Mullin as coach.

I don’t think we would need nearly as much retrospection then.
