Just thought you'd like to know.I don't believe that Castille will get much PT this year, if any. Although he is physically imposing :box I don't see him breaking up throught the depth chart. The speed and physicality of the game is usually such a drastic change for these young guys that it's usually easiest for the tracksters and burners to break into PT. However, I can see him being used much like Cody Glenn his Freshman year: 3rd and 1 from the 1! POW :cheers
I think Adi will have the largest impact, simply because the position is so wide open. He will be doing kickoffs and our long field goals.
If it's not Adi, I think it will be Prince or Mendoza as specialist returners. Prince has lots of experience and a highlight reel of kick and punt returns. Mendoza has that breakaway speed and amazing agility that really is needed for special teams.

i think the transition for players is really tough too. although if lucky, glenn, some of the o-linemen we hear about really struggling as frosh; well, i think it was because they didn't have anyone that'd been in the system like we do now.
now, the upperclassmen have been here a few years they can mentor and tutor the younger guys. sometimes the coaches can explain things 17 times but another player can teach someone his own age and position by showing and leading by example as well. that's why i think this program is really ready to turn the corner.

Considering some of the studs in that past at NU and some at other schools that come into college as freshmen RB's and tear it up, I don't think there's near the drastic change like some would have you believe. In BC's offense, it isn't the physical difference that keeps them from the field. It's the mental challenge that's different from high school. In high school, most 4 and 5 star RB's aren't exactly asked to block. It's the blocking schemes that take the RB's here a while to figure out. Jackson was a lot better back than Porkchop, but he simply didn't have the blocking schemes down. This is why he didn't play more a couple of years ago. In order for a freshman RB to have a major impact this year, a couple of things will have to happen. 1) They do it as a punt or kick returner. 2) We had some major injuries at RB. 3) They come in and pick up the offense better than anyone has up to date. I don't see any freshmen RB's coming in here and getting significant playing time.

Well I totally disagree with what was said before. I think the MAIN thing that MOST incoming recruits struggle with is getting used to the speed of the game, getting used to the speed of the reads. They have had three reports out of practice from Castille, Prince, and Paul and all have them have said the speed is the biggest difference. All reports out of practice are that he is doing pretty well and is in for playing time at running back. Obviously he's probably not going to be a main guy but he will be used like Glenn is, IMO even if Glenn is healthy they will want to get him on the field. Reports are also saying that coaches are pretty impressed with Helu. They like his cutting ability and acceleration. That being the case, since they will have two capable backups look for Culbert to move back over to defense. When I say capable backups I mean two guys that can come in if needed to spell the starter for a play or two. If necessary Culbert can always come back over.

and i think that was the main reason that he ended up transfering there. had SC's kicker was not there when Jordon signed with NU, he would have signed with SC in the first place.

very true. What a great debate, the fact that we have 3-4 possible names being dropped as big time players as true fresman is great.

It was a sad day in Trojan land. Mario Danelo was all smiles and a jokester in the locker room. He will be missed on and off the field. RIP Mario. There are special plans to remember him this year.

SC has a guy from the special teams who kicked a 40+ yarder last year against Notre Dame. He seems to have the inside track. But they also got a I-AA All American field goal kicker who graduated from Davidson. He is in grad school and is eligible immediately according to the NCAA Also, El Camino Jr College's (Close to SC with a good JUCO program) kicker came to USC. So, we'll wait and see. In addition two walk ons are competing for the job as well as other guys on the team. At one point this week in practice there were nine guys lined up practicing kicking. I think its safe to say the position is wide open! This is one area I think NU has the edge on SC going into the game Sept. 15th. Thanks for asking.
