I don't have a link, but Cosgrove said that one formation they have been experimenting with has 6 "linebacker-type" players on the field at the same time........should be interesting to see what stuff he breaks out once the season starts.......I hope he can restrain himself and wait till the USC game to break it out and confuse them a little bit.

A hybrid 3-3-5...........well, we do have good LBs and S's.........might as well get em on the field in obvious passing downs. I'm anxious to see where he uses this and if it actually will work. My biggest concern is getting enough pass rush. Obviously his goal is speed, but you still need a physical presence up front even if it is a passing down.

let's watch this season, but i think coz is already resolved to playing containment/coverage way more often than using blitz packages. i think his use of the all out blitz will be rare indeed.

But you obviously have to think that he will Blitz at least 2 of the six linebackers on the feild. I think it would work!

But youre still rushing 5, and an O lineman can go one on one with a LB inside unless the Lb wants to go the long way around and try and beat him on speed alone, and even that isnt a guarantee he will get all the way around without the tackle simply going with him. I'd rather see Suh in the center of that 3-3-5 bullrushing straight up field and demand a double team on him and burn up some of the blockers, with Dillard at one rush end and Turner at the other........

Dline Turner, Suh, Dillard

LB's Ruud, Mckeon, Octavien

DB's Bowman Asante, Green, Thenarse, Jones

I like the idea along with the player selection. The more speed and athletic ability on the field the better. We could even move Octavien up to an end postion (instead of Dillard) and bring in an extra safety/corner (Wilson or Murillo) and use them as a rover.

Actually, how about

Dline Dillard, Suh, Turner

LBs Wilson, Culbert (when he comes back), Octavien

DB's Bowman, Asante, Green, Thenarse, Jones

2 d linemen - 2 true LB - 2 corners - 5 safeties .................awesome! Now that is getting some speed on the field!

look, a few subtle variations could likely occur, but coz ain't gonna reinvent the wheel here, as a good qb can bust your chops on an experimental defense. things are not going to get wild under cosgrove.

Probly true, but its fun to think about all the possibilities.

Maybe before they get crazy with all these gimmick defenses they should concentrate on the base defense and getting it back into the top 40 in college football. <_<

Getting creative and keeping the opponent guessing could be an advantage. Someone has to have a picture of the rain cloud following Eeyore.
