Damon Benning's Breakdown of Huskers

On Thursday and Friday Benning was on 1620 giving his views on the team from what he's observed so far.

He thinks the team will reach the nine win mark. He thinks two key games as far as turning the corner besides Missouri are Texas A&M and Oklahoma State.

He said that Lucky has never been a 25+ carry guy even in high school so he needs to share the load so he can maintain his explosiveness.

He said Keller is very good. Some think he has a Favre type arm but Benning said it isn't that caliber. But he can make all the throws. Keller also has the ability to improv well when plays break down. He fits that gunslinger mold where he'll attempt some things other QBs won't and will make the plays more often than not. That's probably where the Favre comparisons come from. He may scare the fans once in awhile but will make the big ones as well.

He thinks that Suh is the best player on the D and would hurt the most if he goes down. He views Nicks as the best on the O-Line but claims that Byford is who the coaches are highest on.

He said the receivers have been doing alot of drills to improve on the dropped passes of last year. He does think that Niles Paul and Curenski Gilleylen are still a year away from being big play guys.

He said the D will being showing many new formations to confuse the opposition and will be getting after the QB more. He thought Dillard and Octavien would be key.

Regarding other teams Benning thinks Oklahoma will only finish third in the Big XII South. He cited the new QB and inexperienced O-Line as the big issues.

He made other observations but these were the ones which stuck with me. I've always thought Benning has had pretty good insights.

I just wanted to comment on the OU thing, they have had question marks on the o-line the past 3 seasons, but somehow that bloody Sooner Magic always prevails. By the end of the season their o-line seems to be one of the better parts of their team. Maybe this will be the year. Who knows.

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I saw that. Never count the Sooners out.

Nine isn't good enough, ten or eleven wins is what they should get. Luckily we have aTm and Okie St at home this year. Mizzou is going down this year Lou Holtz you stupid F_ck!

I'd have to see I think Benning is spot on for everything here. Even OU finishing third in the south. I think they may even finish second in their own state.
