Great read for Husker Fans

PooBear, I Am I..

I actually agree with both of you on some points (if I'm allowed).

The reason (at least for me) that most of us were ok with Osborn taking so long to win "the Big one" against OU or 20 years to win a MNC, was that EACH year, we felt this could be the year we'd win it all. And more often than not, we did it the right way.

It was hard on our tickers going through most of each season unbeaten/untied then lose to a couple of Oklahoma flea-flickers in the 4th quarter or to a Florida school in the Orange Bowl...We'd take solace in the fact that we led the nation in Academic All Americans or how we were perceived to be great fans to opposing teams.

It may have taken too long to get "over the hump", but there was never a time where any of us would think we'd get blown out or would be that over matched and most of us could watch our friends play even if they were 3rd or 4th string.

Where was I going?..Oh yeah..

We're now probably a little more spoiled/jaded and wouldn't give ANYone more than 10 years to win a MNC if we knew that ahead of time. but most of the fun in football is the process of getting there.

Championships are nice but the real memories are built on the relationships of the coaches and players and maybe the Fans a little (vicariously).

"More Than Winning".
I for one had a horrible time dealing with NU being in the Top 10 every year with the chance of getting a shot of a Nat'l Title. :sarcasm Nebraska is a small state population-wise, with no big sports, and deal with it...we love to see our school get a chance at the limelight...what else is going to get it? Ernie Chambers' T-shirt and the Unicameral he abuses year after year? Who cares!

But I digress...

The past is the past, and it is time to move on...the debate will rage on and on about Cally and Petey and Frank and T.O. until NU either wins it all or continues winning moderately. I do agree College Football is changing the playing field, and no team will probably ever be the same.

But Nebraska has to get the shot at the big show every couple of years. That's all I ask. Big recruits don't always pan out, the calls don't always favor ya...but every now and then sparks should flash, coach's decisions should look perfect, and great results should happen. And with the best fans in the world supporting Nebraska every year...it definitely doesn't hurt the process! :hellloooo

In this day and age, this is what is likely for NU fans.

DJR and I were talking about this last night.

The thing that makes this article not a good read is that it's considerable different in attitude and scope when you compare it to every other Big 12 team preview Barf has written this year. That's not fair.

I am growing ever convinced that Barfs title should be "Big 12 Sportswriter, except I bag on NU at most every turn I can."

I'm convinced his "Evil Plan" is to get our guys to work harder..And to get our Rivals to grow complacent.

It's a Midwest thang.
