*** Official Minnesota Game What Did We Learn Thread ***

This team doesn’t quit, a reflection of their coach. I am so excited for the future! The defense still needs a ton of work, but they came through when necessary and that’s all we need at the moment. Martinez is an absolute stud, and he has some really awesome talent for the next few years. The oline played really, really well today. If the d gets its head out we can win every game left on our schedule, OSU is not invincible as they seemed ealrier in the year.

as an aside: I’m no defensive genius, but since our secondary gets burned anyway, wouldn’t it make sense to blitz more? That way at least the qb has less time to pick us apart. Just a beer soaked thought. Anyway, great win! Very proud of the way the team played

Offense really showing some good progress especially in the running game.

I like our Thunder and Lightning approach with Ozigbo and Washington.

Martinez had a great game.

Our offense should consistently dominate lesser opponents but still needs improvement against better teams.

Would like to see another receiver (outside of JD and Stan) step up; also to see the TE as more of a weapon.

The defense and special teams are still works in progress.

It is easy to see we just have more of the pieces on offense right now vs defense.

We had the ball for less than five minutes in the first quarter but were ahead 14-0

We held the ball for over 11.5 minutes in the fourth quarter.

Stat of the game right there.

Wasn't it against Colorado where if Frost and offense would have slowed down with like 5 minutes left in the 4th Q and bled the clock they probably could have won?  If not Colorado, what game was that?  Regardless, it was refreshing to see Nebraska actually come as close to using the max play clock late in the game.  Of course that only works if a team is able to move the chains and get 1st downs.  Otherwise they get accused of going "turtle."

Yes, it was Colorado

Not really the same situation.  We only had a one-score lead against Colorado.  And when we could have burned more clock, we had to put Bunch in the game.  No need giving him more to think about, just run the plays.

We have a couple backs committed that could do very well for us next year to go along with Mo.

Mills is an Oz type back but faster and Johnson is a speedster that can house it anytime he touches the ball.
If Mills is faster than Oz, he must be super fast. Oz showed his speed today. He is plenty fast.

The offense played with a new swagger... I love to see them confident enough to try some trick plays and have fun messing around a bit. Loosen up that playbook. Make the defense think about what might happen next. I can't wait to see Martinez lobbing up some passes without so much wind!

1.  We learned that the rumors about the B1G's officiating being terrible are very true:

How this is even possible at any point confounds me.  This is virtually and statistically impossible.

This officiating crew also couldn't keep up with the down marker, either...

2.  We learned that this defensive staff doesn't adjust well to the changes their opponent throws at them.  Two changes that Minny made:

A.  QB change due to injury.

B.  More Wildcat.

3. We learned that Minny's close game with the Buckeyes was more on the Buckeyes and less on Minny.  OSU looked bad last night.  I mean, REALLY bad...we are talking to the point where some of that fan base is thinking this is the end of Meyer's tenure after this season.

4.  We learned Purdue is better than their record.

5.  Learned that when this team takes their foot off the gas, the car stalls.  They pop started the clutch today, though.

6.  This stat is still screwing with me...

I'll be very surprised if Martinez isn't a national super star in the next couple years.  He, Ozigbo, Morgan, and Spielman is a lot of star power for one offense.

I learned we can put it together on 2/3 sides for more than 1 quarter and when we do that we look scary. Say what you will about Chin and the D, but they made a ton of plays today that show promise.
