Looks like he was able to redshirt because of a finger injury this year.  My sources can't confirm which finger.

Started every game with the exception of the final three against Kansas State, Kansas and Virginia Tech, which he missed due to injury ... Was one of OSU’s four captains against Baylor and on the road at Iowa State ... Recorded 26 tackles, including 17 solo stops ... Yeah a rotation of 6-8 players seems like the desire of this staff. Carlos can probably slide out to DE as well, so I don't think this is indicative of Fair not making it.
