Changes on offense 2019

Frost UCf offense in year 2 was quite a bit different than year 1

expect the same here 

sure part of it had to do with personnel

but part is due to experience 

everyone but vedral was a year one pupil heck the quarterback was a true frosh 

Riley left a team that was as we all knew very weak mentally and physically frost did what he had to do work culture and physicality 

The playbook will open up

with the recruited speed expect more long tds

this year 2 frost film shows frost getting his team into plays where the defense has little chance due to x and os advantages, taking advantage of coverages, reads and alignments

were going to see lots of false pulls and window dressing this season

saw a little taste  of that last year later in the season

they threw a LOT more in year 2 

this year expect to see more of the buck sweep plays here Larry fedora style with pulling center and guard at about the 40 second mark 

expect more deep passes and seam throws to the tight end off play action

We don’t have that TE. Tried this last year, Stoll just doesn’t have the giddy up and the blocking drops off dramatically with Allen/Rafdal. 

You are right, though, this is an important part of this offense. Frost spends a lot of effort getting defenders to vacate the middle of the field and one of the easiest ways to capitalize on that is with a TE. If we don’t get more production out of the tight ends, he won’t hesitate to use less 11 personnel.

Ozigbo: 1,082 rushing yards 12 TD. Not as concerned if Washington is able to play mixed with Mills and co. 

Morgan: 1,004 receiving yards 7 TD. This one is tougher to replace as outside of JD our next leading WR had 122 receiving yards...

It’s also an errant statement.

Pass/Run ratios are poor analytics for a ton of reasons, but a huge reason is they confuse cause and effect. For your average offense, effective downfield passing shortens the game because it lowers the number of plays per drive. 

This is what happened to UCF in 2017. Milton himself had 100 plays of 15 or more yards passing. They gobbled up huge chunks through the air eliminating situations where it was more likely a run would be called. Nebraska last year generated a ton of 2nd and shorts, 3rd and shorts and required more first downs...all situations where running plays are more likely to be called. Like at UCF, as the passing game eliminates these situations fewer runs may be called...but not because Frost doesn’t want to run the ball, but because he doesn’t need to.

This is fundamentally a running offense. It’s classified as a spread to run offense for that reason. Let’s never lose sight of that. It’s a constant tug and pull between numbers in the box, numbers outside and numbers deep. It’s because of that triangle that defenses are in constant conflict.

I feel good about the passing game because its year 2 for QB, JD becomes Stan, Wandale becomes JD and we have a bunch of talent to step up. O line being more experienced, Martinez making a jump will be the biggest factors. 

 
35-1 odds that Nebraska gets into the playoffs.....win the B1G and get in basically.  Throwing $30 at it, why not.

I forsee a quantum leap on offense this season. One key to the leap will be consistency. We were very explosive at times last season, but we would sputter for a quarter at a time and it would kill us. I see us being much more efficient this year and that will help everyone out.

We will still be logrothimcly ahead of where we were run game wise with riley

plus frost will run the ball on 3rd and 8

and it won’t be a scramble 

we will also have more than 2 run plays

which makes people who love the ground game to be happy

I would agree if we had more than 4 starters returning on offense.

Yes tight ends that can stretch the field and block are tough to come by

shame Riley didn’t get on Fant early

one of the toughest things a lb has to do is to discern 

is this tight end blocking me or going out for a pass or both add in a play action possible run fit and the lbs brain is spinning like a top

add in the fact you have to cover our backs on fakes or on something that looks like pass pro because they slip out of the backfield and can catch well and make big plays 

really sucks for opposing linebackers
