Nebraska Cornhuskers . . . your 2009 National Champs?

So I've been looking ahead . . . and I've been wondering about this for a couple of weeks now. And since I'm sick of looking back at USC, I've decided now is the time to take it public. Take a look at our 2009 schedule:

Florida Atlantic

Louisiana-Lafayette

@ Virginia Tech

Arkansas State

@ Missouri

Texas Tech

Iowa State

@ Baylor

Oklahoma

@ Kansas

Kansas State

@ Colorado

Think about it . . . in 2009, either Patrick Witt or Zack Lee will be a two-year starter (assuming neither gets injured, of course), a whole bunch of young kids will be juniors or seniors . . . and our schedule is hardly difficult (exceptions noted).

. . . could we make a serious national title run in 2009?

Could we? Yes. Will we? Nobody could answer that today. I like your thinking, and I would love that to be true.

I just have no clue if Witt or Lee will be a two year starter by then. Or if the young guys turn out to be great. But I'm hopeful right there with you!

GBR!!!

That's probably about as soft of schedule as we've had for quite a while, so yeah it's possible to make a run. However, VT is starting a freshman this year at QB. He looks to be pretty darn good. He'll be a 3 year starter by that time and they get us at home. OU has I believe a freshman QB starting this year as well that'll be in his 3rd year starting also. Plus, it's possible we have to play OU twice. Conceivable, but we have a long way to go before we seriously need to consider it.

Right now, it looks like we have a chance to do some damage, but you never know..

A program can get turned around in 2 years, see Wake Forest. So it wont be that cushy when we get to it, but still probably one of our easier ones.

Seems reasonable...BUT...who knows how good Colorado, Kansas, and KSU will be. Granted...if we compare recruiting classes we should have the talent advantage...but really...who knows..

That said...

I agree with the post two up from me. It really comes down to the talent we are recruiting in 2008 and 2009 and comparing it to some of those schools. Obviously the toughest games in that schedule are VT and OU. Other than those two games I don't see a problem. :bonez :bonez :bonez

How dare you for not starting a 'Fire Coz/Fire Callahan/What would Frank do?' Thread. You should be banned! Damn 800+ posters. ;) :sarcasm

Seriously, maybe even throw in Gabbert into the mix by then, who knows. Va Tech will be tough out there, and OU shouldn't be falling off anytime soon. So yeah, at least 2 tough games.

That said, let's beat Ball State today!
