Larry Asante

The only guys that didn't take home that honor was Octavien and Dillard.

Asante is personally responsible for two Ball State touchdowns that I can think of. He gave up huge yards and points with poor open field tackling and lazy pass coverage.

He's definitely one of the biggest let downs this year as far as incoming players.

As far as benching him, I'm not real sure who you put in.

Can we recruit whoever that kid was for Ball State that picked off Keller. Talk about some friggin' closing speed?!?! Hardy had 3-4 steps on him and he came out of nowhere!

I agree. I see teams like App St, and Ball St that have more speed and athleticism. These kids went to smaller schools because of size an upside but they are way more athletic then us. I think our staff brags about how many stars our recruits have but we lack speed and athleticism.

Last week I was wondering if I was in the twilight zone, but now I'm sure I am. No way Ball State has more speed and athleticism than NU, period!

That was an amazing pick. Kid deserves props. 9 could have put the ball a little more out front but who could have known he would need to. Hardy had that kid smoked.

Well they do in speed. That is a guarantee. They are incredibly fast. App. St is faster than a lot of D1 schools. Their players are their b/c they didn't qualify or they are undersized.

Asante wasn't the BIGGEST disappointment Sat. but he did disappoint.

I was standing up cheering the deep touchdown before it was caught because that ball should have been picked off.

I think he's confused though. COZ needs to simplify and just let the players play.

Thenarse and Wilson should be the starting safeties

I really thought asante was going to be the cure for our secondary but he has looked worse than shanle did last year. It probably is just taking some time to get experience and learn. Im hoping for the best; the best way to learn is by making mistakes.

He needs to be benched.

No he does not. he is a sophomore and is the one that the staff has invested in. he is the guy for the next few years and he simply needs to get used to things. He was and is a fine athlete and has skills. But consider his position --- he is new, the defense is complicated, he is inexperienced in terms of knowing where he should be and he is in the middle of a shell-shocked defense that has been really, really, really toasted. the confidence and the shock of all that and the pressure to succeed (trying too hard) is a load for a 19 year old kid. he needs to simply play through it and, as he does, we should root him on o at every turn.

Put yourself into his cleats --- 80,000 fans screaming, you are 19 (or 20, whatever) and the blackshirt tradition is at stake --- your team is getting smoked and you just have to make that play.....

It is not an easy time for the NU kids --- especially those on defense, and especially those on defense who are new.
