Warren might have had to announce the message, but it was delivered in an insouciant, rambling and tone deaf style. He had No explanations, No empathy, No answers, and no backup plans. Is this guy really the best the mighty Big 10 wants or needs as it's front porch Visual?

I dont know...I'm just giving my opinion on how I think this all went down. Basically expected people to think "smart choice" and when not received that way it went.."look over there" mode

THIS is where he is accountable. He didn't make the decision, which has everyone pissed, but he's the messenger. And the message he delivered was (Charles Barkely voice) "turrble."  Just "turrble."

And this is why he is taking the heat and doesn’t deserve to merely be called a scapegoat. That messaging and veil of leadership is what he gets paid for. Of course the schools and Presidents make the big decisions. He had a tough job being tasked with selling a cancelled a season while maintaining face for his 14 bosses by not throwing any of them under the bus. But that is his job and he failed miserably at it. He is paid handsomely to be the face and voice of those decisions. He seems to be asleep at the wheel. Not a good look for the commissioner of what is supposed to be a prestigious conference.

 
It has been leaked that it was a 8-6 vote by the chancellors and presidents of the member schools.  Then the Big 14 (Kevin) decided to not release the results and which schools said yes and which schools said no.  The nays won and the rest is history.  Kevin deserves some flak for not releasing the results to the public.

I’ve been very critical of warren, but found out this am that part of my criticism was unwarranted and based on poor information. 

Found out this am that Warren visited with 2 members of each team. So players did have input. Also as stated by others here it’s come out that several university presidents are saying that a consensus was come to, but there was no formal vote. Yes, they are running for cover and shirking any accountability. 
 

warren presided over a flawed process, using a flawed study and communicated the results in a very poor way. So yes he isn’t the one making the decision, but he owns the process and the public relations which have been a disaster.

Warren and his university president buddies are praying very heavily that the sec and acc fail big time

I would imagine that they are doubling up on saying the rosary. 
 

I think it comes down to athletics versus academics. It’s Revenge of the Nerds part XXX. Athletics has to win one, right? 
 

I also wonder if the size of athletic departments might indicate which universities want to play. I imagine strict Covid protocols are expensive.

If $ for covid is causing them to balk at sports, they’rer fiscal idiots.  No sports is millions and millions more !

I am of the thought that it is danged if you do and danged if you don't. 

So I don't see the harm in letting schools who want to compete play especially with other conferences playing.  It's not like each region is operating in their own bubbles.  If the others want to opt-out that's fine that is their choice. 

It's like the casino gambling in Council bluffs.  Omaha can't do it due to Nebraska laws.  Omaha suffers from the problems of gambling without enjoying any of the tax benefits.

not rocket science bud, if you really need input or direction on your life probably better avenues than a message board. I hope you find meaning and clarity in your life.

Word of advice, just do a quick google search on notre dame and michigan and read how theyre suspending all in person classes... kids shouldnt be on campus, PERIOD, much less playing a game.

As a "grown a$$" man, hope you consider the well being of others in your actions and not act selfishly at all times

Honestly if all campuses went virtual, football might work fine and not contribute to the spread much. It wasn't ever going to be the 100/150+ on the football team that would spread it far and wide, it was the other 30k-50k students. That basically creates a bubble on each campus.

Was the vote based on anonymity? I would assume it was, if not..likely a different vote 

 
These are public officials by any reasonable definition.  Nothing they do in their public / official capacity is anonymous or secret as regards voting on behalf of the public university.  

Even the idea of secret voting is wrong and quite possibly illegal.  Representatives are to represent.  They certainly cant do that without being open, honest, sincere and transparent.  Some behind closed doors discussion is fine as there is always going to be spirited debate, devil’s advocacy is healthy and beneficial to the search for group understanding and the best group decisions.  But how a public official acts / votes of public business is public.  Such officials have a duty to answer questions and the public has a right to know what such officials do on the job.

He won’t need to pack, he still hasn’t moved from his home in Minneapolis to the big 10 offices in Chicago. He’s had since what january to move? 
 

So is he committed to running the big10 or is this just a temporary gig until the nfl taps him in as their big minority splash hire? 
 

This is eerily like mike Riley setting up shop in a hotel for a year, then a fully furnished apartment. Not a good look for warren
