The thing I noticed most about the game was that Nebraska didn't appear to be playing with a lot of emotion or intensity. It wasn't that you guys don't have play makers, but they just didn't seem fired up for the game. Frankly, they played with the same lack of enthusiasm I used to expect from our Mizzou teams. It just seemed that Mizzou wanted it more. I still think the talent level of the two teams is pretty equal.

Great game and congratulations on the win. We know that our team has been lacking heart every single game this year and it seems to be getting worse. Our guys can't be that bad it HAS to come down to coaching.

This nebraska team is bereft of any emotion, especially on defense - save for Brandenburg and Dillard. And it's a direct result of Coz.
Adding to the problems, Bowman is a shade of his former self, McKeon talks and can't back it up, and the rest are just inconsistent.

I know this has been discussed in some other posts, but I just think when Nebraska tried to go to the West Coast Offense they lost their identity. The thing that made Nebraska great and in my mind better than other "power house schools" like Florida and others is the continuity the program had and the option running game. It just seems like some of that tradition has been lost which has resulted in this lack of heart. I truly hope you guys can get it back. I still hope Mizzou can beat you, but I hope you can get it back.

Well, unfortuantely, Solich was no Osborne - especially in game planning. There's not many people that could run the option like TO.
The problem with hiring Gill at the time, other than no HC-Coordinator experience, was he'd probably keep a lot of the aging staff who couldn't get out and recruit. Gill models himself after TO, and he wouldn't really replace anybody.
So... a new offensive philosophy has to come into place. And... it's not working.

First of all, let me say that I am resigned to the FACT that this is a bad team with good players. The team is bad, because they are not:
1. Coached correctly
2. Coached Up for games
3. Coached into favorable game situations
4. Coached out of difficult game situations
5. Coached with regard to appropriate personnel.
I have always supported Coach Callahan while not supporting Steve Pederson. For the sake of the team and the program, I "got on the bus." Now, I feel like I've been mugged by my grandmother in the sense that I continue to support a coach and a staff and a program that simply does not coach kids, and now EVERYONE, especially the players are paying for it. Giving the meager $350 for season tickets feels like losing an impulse bet with a family's grocery money. I've been ripped off my something I've dearly loved and supported since I could walk.
I don't know if it is Coach Callahan himself, but at the root, it is coaching and coaches. And we as fans are helpless hotages. It's the same feeling I got driving back from Colorado on a sunny November day in 2003. There is uncertainty, and I have no control over tomorrow. I love Nebraska Football and everthing that it stands for, but if this ship goes down, I almost hope it goes now. And if we should go to rock bottom, the only way that hope could be restored would be for Pearlman, Pederson, and Callahan to go in succession.
If THAT should happen, then consider this recruiting class on pins and needles, and that's a whole new thread.
BOTTOM LINE: Coaching is the root of success and failure. There is no band aid for this. We are all helpless in the face of poor coaching.

we looked like a badly coached team. ignore the score....its the simple stuff. penalties, mental mistakes, lack of emotion. thats all coaching. not the players or the fans or anything else. thats on the coaches

Watching the Nebraska defense I think they play confused. It looks like Cosgrove has them in some sort of "read and react" defense. All those great Husker teams had the Blackshirts that "attacked" the opponent. Taking the game to the opponent. How can Cosgrove only rush three play after play. Daniel looked like he was in practice. I don't think he had a Husker touch him unless he ran the ball.
With the speed in the game today, the defense has to attack, you can't sit back and let the offense come after you.
Just some thoughts.

I think both sides of the ball is that way. we need to simplify it on both sides of the ball and work on the basics. we just flat out look poorly coached
Yes we have problems on both sides of the ball. A lot of the defensive problems come down to lack of enthusiasm/intensity/motivation/belief in themselfs/whatever, and some problems with fundamentals.
On the offensive side, it comes down to concentration and knowledge of the plays. I see lots of receivers not running their routes correctly, lineman missing blocking assignments, etc..
This is a global problem, I don't know if everything is just too complex for these kids, or if they aren't being taught well or what it is but, our players seem confused often as to what they're supposed to be doing. You can't have much intensity/fire if you're unsure of where you're supposed to be at and what you're supposed to be doing there.
On a side note, Keller seemed to be pissed off during the game. I think that probably comes down to his line not holding, and his receivers not getting open and/or being in the wrong place. Feel bad that he walked in to this situation. He could have gone about anywhere and he walked into a sinking ship. Hopefully the NFL scouts can see past our team's problems and see that the kid can play.

Keller had some good passes. I thought #86 in particular dropped a couple of really easy balls. If a few of those catches had been made that were the receivers dropping, not Keller throwing poorly, you guys may have been more in the game.
