so his record is like 3-2 or 4-2 when he should probably be 8-1 or 9-0? just astounds me the poor run support he gets coupled with the bullpen failing him often as well.

Yeah.  What's even crazier is it's been that way for the last four year.  Slightly better this year so maybe things are changing.

deGrom's starts this year.  Mets are actually 6-3 after winning the last four.

6.0 IP, 0 ER, ND - Mets lose 3-5

8.0 IP, 1 ER, L - Mets lose 0-3

6.0 IP, 0 ER, W - Mets win 4-3

9.0 IP, 0 ER, W - Mets win 6-0

6.0 IP, 1 ER, L - Mets lose 0-1

5.0 IP, 1 ER, W - Mets win 4-2

5.0 IP, 1 ER, ND - Mets win 3-1

6.0 IP, 0 ER, W - Mets win 6-2

7.0 IP, 0 ER, W - Mets win 4-0

 
That's amazing to me for someone who wasn't that in college.  I know I just really started following them this year, but he didn't pitch that much other than relief in college, right?


Not that I know of.  I was surprised as well.

Some reporter dug up this super old tweet about deGrom in the minors - converting from SS to Pitcher can work! He did start his junior year of college though, while also playing SS. 


No one is going to be like deGrom, but apparently the scouts sometimes know what they're doing when they project guys - I imagine one of the factors in deGrom starting to pitch in college was input from scouts about his future.
