Did you watch the games? That pathetic university record you posted has nothing to do with whether Mickey is the best choice. Or was there another qualified coach you wanted?

Went through the drive through at Runza earlier. Person in a blue Impala in front of me paid for my order.

In turn I paid for the person behind me. Told the guy at the window, tell them that it’s from Matt.

To quell any buyers remorse with Rhule, lets take a closer look at Luke Fickell during his time at Cincinnati from 2017 to 2022.  Below are all of the P5 teams Luke played and their respective regular season records and game with Cincinnati outcome (decent teams in bold):

2017 Michigan (8-4) Lost 36-14

2018 UCLA (3-9) Won 26-17

2018 Virginia Tech (6-6) Won 35-31

2019 UCLA (4-8) Won 24-14

2019 Ohio State (12-0) Lost 42-0

2019 Boston College (6-6) Won 38-6

2020 Georgia (7-2) Lost 24-21

2021 Indiana (2-10) Won 38-24

2021 Notre Dame (11-1) Won 24-13

2021 Alabama (11-1) Lost 27-6

2022 Arkansas (6-6) Lost 31-24

2022 Indiana (4-8) Won 45-24

Notice a pattern?  The only win Luke had against a decent P5 team during his tenure at Cincinnati was 2021 Notre Dame who went on to lose to Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl.  With now #18 ranked Tulane set to win the American Conference and 9-3 Cincinnati just dropping out of the top 25 after losing their last game to Tulane, it is a perfect time for Luke to abandon ship.  I don't think Bucky is getting what they think they are getting.

Interesting data.

I did some similar checking.  Fickell is 5-11 against ranked opponents.  He lost seven of his first eight, the only win coming against a UCF team that finished the year ranked #24.  Only one of the wins is against a team ranked higher than #18.  None were against Power 5 opponents.

And you know this because……(just curious :)
It’s in our interest too. Should it work out as well as we want it to, should another program successfully steal Rhule they’re going to pay a price for it.

I’d say we have ourselves a very good coach.

Six Stats
40: Sacks per season. That’s Rhule’s goal. In his must-listen speech at the American Football Coaches Association convention, Rhule said 40 sacks results in ten wins. In 2019, Baylor had 46 of them, and won 11 games. In 2016, Temple had 40 sacks, and won 10 games.

OWH

This will be interesting to watch.  Nebraska hasn't even had 30 sacks since we had 39 in 2013 when Randy Gregory had 10.5 by himself.  Last time over 40 was 2009.  That defense was OK.

My uneducated guess is we don't get as many chances with the offenses we face in the B1G, especially in the West.  But we could definitely be better.

That's a pretty good point.

Considering the Big Ten West, a more realistic sack total is probably in the low 20s on the season for the same measure of success?

Its long but if you have time to watch but does give you a better understanding of Matt Rhule and also talks about Luke Fickell as well.

Greg McElroys take on this is the equivalent of MTV asking Ja Rule for his thoughts on 9-11. Someone horribly qualified commenting on a tragedy.
Right…And Trev didn’t have to make an additional attempt to successfully secure his guy.

Well he has never been at a job for more than 4 years and the Huskers have paid every single coach since Osborne to leave. The huskers are number 1 in the nation when it comes to severance pay. Lincoln is the perfect place for a coach that's looking to cash out real quick.  :)
