I never said that he is a WR coach, he said he was an out of work coach, I merely stated he was still a coach. Also I never said that he wouldn’t be successful. I said this was the only head scratcher to me. He may very well be successful just like his dad was when he started coaching at Baylor, I hope that’s the case

Anyway, you are mad, that is awesome.  More than likely, this hire will not be a big deal either way.  But, to make you feel better I will agree with you that it will lead to the total destruction of Husker football.

Well….the discussion was about WR coaching.  He’s basically a consultant.  I’m guessing He’s trying to pad his resume and learn stuff more than just technical skill coaching and that’s why he has this position.

Thanks for that clarification. What are his main responsibilities in that role?  I think he helps their WR’s with route running and pass catching techniques. So he’s basically a WR consultant.  Tee Martin is the real WR coach, who helps with game planning and communication with the OC and head coach.

I find it funny how people hate on every coach when they are no longer here. I am not hating on Williams. That’s great he has his specialty and he’s succeeding with it.  My point is that his type of “specialty skills coaching” is rarely used as college position coaches (within the full-time assistant staff).

I’m m confused, so he didn’t do the same exact thing when he was coaching at Nebraska? If he didn’t then I apologize, but I am pretty sure this is what WR coaches do at every level.

Yes, KW was WR coach at NU. However, I think his type of “specialty skill coaching” is not the norm in college football. Also, KW didn’t recruit.  He was too focused on training his circle of WR’s who came to visit him.

All the drills are pretty much the same and all totally available for anyone to use. 

I guess I might change it to this...

98% is done

1% is connecting and recruiting

1% is breaking down film (this is the hardest part,  I think)

but anyone on the site could go and 'coach" WR's, assuming you just know the basics of FB.

I guess my question to you would be what does "coaching up" mean?  Because every CFB team is running the same WR practice drills. 

XHCMJ was a QB in his playing career. Look at how many WRs he put in the league...

Over the past few years, I would say Ohio State has had the best WR’s in college football. I have no idea who their WR coach is, and I think it’s fair to say that 99% of college football fans don’t know who their WR coach is. 

Brian Hartline.  And I think he is the only non-Nebraska WR coach I know off the top of my head.

And I’m not sure how great of a “coach” he is, but he can recruit like crazy.

We tried the hot shot coordinator in Pelini - worked OK for a while. We tried the old .500 coach in Mike Riley - didn't work out. We tried the Prodigal Son in Scott Frost - didn't work out.

People like to act like "if we would just do this" or "there's no way that could work".  But we've tried about every combination of how to go about things.  There isn't a magic bullet.  There's no "right" way to do it.  If there was, everyone would be doing it the same way.

You just have to get the right combination and fit.
